Hi Everyone,

An East Coast Medical Student owner of an all black on black Infiniti fx50s.

I love my car (bought it 3 months ago) and was recently told by a locksmith my Engine Control Module needs to be replaced

Previously drove a Toyota Solara which eventually died on me at 250xxx miles.

Glad to be in this forum and hope to gain insight into the best ways to maintain my Infiniti

Thank Everyone

Thanks for the response.

My car only came with one key from the dealer so I decided to buy two additional keys to be programmed (just incase I lose the only key the car came with)
Bought it online, after which locksmith told me those would not work because it's already programmed to another car so he opted I purchased 2 from him instead 4x the price of what I had purchased online...
After the keys arrived, he called me to bring my car in to be programmed ..got the car there, they played with it for over 4 hours and then told me they put the wrong code (2009) instead of 2008 code (because my car was made in 2008) even though it is a 2009 fx50s.. I assumed that mostly happens so didn't sweat it,
They then said car needed to sit for about an hour to reset itself..after the next few hours, they said, they are not sure why the "ECM isn't learning its own key again or the extra 2 they bought themselves".. they floated the idea, it was late so they'll deal with it the next day so I left my car with them and called for a ride to be taken home.. received a call this morning that "they think it's a faulty ECM so they'll tow the car to an infiniti dealership to check it out"

At the moment, I'm without a car and there's no clear direction as in what is going on with my car and I hope any insight on this forum will be EXTREMELY valuable to me at the moment

Tldr: My was working with only 1 remote when I took to locksmith yesterday, now car won't start and locksmith don't know what it happening and now towing it to a dealer to check see whats going on. I need help as this is really disrupting my clinical schedule as a medical student without a car.

Sounds like they don't know what they're doing. I highly doubt the issue is with the ECM. They should be able to program it back with one key that came with the car.

When I bought my QX, it only comes with one key as well. I search eBay for new OME key with the same numbers printed on one the comes with my car. Look up locksmith on offerup to program the new key to the car for $70.
