Hello,

Just joined this forum as parts seem to be getting scarce. Love my FX50s and have owned it from new in 2008. I now have 135K miles on it and want to keep it going. The dealer I purchased it from has now been sold to a different auto group and the service people I have been working with all this time are now gone. Main issue now is a slight leak from valve cover. I am told the covers need to be replaced as the spark plug tubes are integrated into the cover. Parts are discontinued. Looking for a solution.
Thanks for the add and looking forward to learning from the group.

Rockauto has valve cover gaskets with spark plugs tube seals in stock. I certainly wouldn't change the valve covers themselves, just the gaskets. A lot of stuff needs to be removed, but it is relatively straight forward.

Have you done it? Dealer says that replacement is the only fix. Service manuals that can be accessed by other shops say the same. Concerned that if anything gets damaged during disassembly then the car is done.

If the leak is around the valve cover, then gasket is all you need, If the leak is inside the spark plug hole, you will have to replace the entire gasket.

Hello,

circling back on this thread after a long time. I am happy to report that despite the dealer information and the fact that the valve covers are discontinued by Infiniti, I was able to find a replacement valve cover and inspect it. You absolutely can replace just the valve cover gaskets including the spark plug tube seals on an FX50. I got the part for $150, had the gaskets replaced and went on a 2000 mile road trip. Car performed flawlessly and no leaks at all! Thanks to the group here for the info shared.
