I can't find this on nhtsa either. The back seems to cool, but not the bottom so I hope this is a recall.

Sorry, didn't search hard enough, found the pdf on another site. Pretty cool as it has pictures, wondered how it all worked. Don't know how to do attachments on here, otherwise I'd add it.

I think your getting recall confused with TSB. A recall is a notice released by the National Highway Traffic Association (NHSTA). This would be known as a mandatory recall that could potentially effect the safety of a vehicle.

Now this problem with the climate controlled seats is not a recall. It's what as known as a technical service bulletin (TSB). It's when a notice is released about a certain problem with a vehicle that comes with repair procedures involving that problem and how to fix it.

Curious what the fix is? I had this problem on my 2010, I'd turn the dial to heat/cool and it wouldn't turn on (light wouldn't illuminate, couldn't feel any change in seat temp). Then sporadically when I'd turn the dial the seat would turn on and work fine.

Took it in and they said there was something about it, they had to cut some foam out from around a sensor for the seat as it was retaining heat and that was triggering a safety mechanism where it won't turn on if it's overheating. Cutting out some of the surrounding foam was supposed to allow the unit to cool off easier, and thus would stop it from triggering this overheat safety.

Just brought my 2009 FX35 in for the passenger heated seat turning off after about 10 seconds. They said they are ordering in a new part (not sure which one yet) to replace. Hopefully this fixes it, especially since it looks like it has been an ongoing issue for other more recent models.
