2005 FX bought used - how to set up XM Radio?

Hi everyone. I just bought a 2005 Infiniti FX35. I LO-O-O-V-E it! I am trying to figure out how to set up XM Radio. I have several XM accounts in other locations, so I'm familiar with how XM works.

My FX has the tech package, and installed near the dash, down by the driver's right leg, is a small black plastic standalone device that has about 5 radio station selections on it (88.7, 91.3, etc.). It looks like a controller for a satellite radio add-on tuner. However, when I press SAT on the dash, it just tells me "NO SAT". I think I need to give XM my radio ID so they can start a subscription for this car, but I can't get my radio ID if I can't turn on the satellite radio.

Any ideas? (I would post a picture of the frequency selection device but I don't think I can post a pic yet).

I've never heard of that lil box... I used to have Sirius and it went through factory SAT like you mentioned not working. Dunno, but welcome!

When you hit SAT does it allow you to change the station? I had to go to station 1 to get my radio ID to activate the Sirius. Is the button a FM transmitter for a IPod or the like possibly? Is there a cable running to your center counsel that goes nowhere?

It seeing that your FX have Sat capability but there not sat in it.. Cause I have the same setup and that's what my Sat button does she I press it "no sat" so you have the capability for it you just need to buy one and install it. I think we have threads for that. Congrats on your fx and welcome to IS!

the box your talking about is an fm transmitter, used as a cheap easy way to send audio into the stock system through a vacant fm station, which is what that select switch is for... useless, rip it out, has nothing to do with integrating xm to your fx

The OEM Sat connections are under the arm rest in the rear seats. Its prewired - but you need a couple of things to get it to work with the SAT button on the dash.

I guess I'll take it to my local vehicle/stereo installer, then. Thanks for all your help. Hey, is it wired so that the add-on XM Receiver can use the factory installed antenna? I hate those magnetized ones.

you can hide the magnetized one at the top ledge of the tailgate, inside the jamb. the gate is smc composite & does not block the satellite reception. it can also be hidden high up in the dash, it'll also receive through that... but you do need to add an antenna I think...

Yes Antenna is needed - I think the hatch is the best place to hide it.

Thanks! Has anyone installed the Direct XM Radio Kit sold by Integration Solutions on eBay? They claim it allows you to choose XM stations on your Bose factory screen, and it will display XM artist/title on the display, too.

Good question. I too have seen the Integration Solutions on eBay. Has anyone else used it to see if it will work properly with the factory Bose system?

XM Radio Setup

I am picking up an '05 FX35 today and when I test drove it, I noticed that the SAT button resulted in a radio ID being displayed, but I couldn't tune to channel 1.

Normally on an XM radio you get channel 1 for free as it is a constant commercial for XM Radio.

After I have a chance to toy with it I'll respond here with more information.

If you have the tuner & antenna all you need to do is call xm and get it activated. If not buy the tuner & antenna annd get it installed

BUMP. Has anyone figured this out yet? I am having the same issue. :(

After pressing the SAT button turn the knob on the right to go thru the stations, if you're hooked up, if not, you'll just get channel 1 and your radio ID (I'm thinking about subscribing to Sirius radio.)
