2005 FX 35 reverse problems

2005 with 185,000 miles, first problem ever with this vehicle. Just started while visiting my mom in Palm desert at 120 degrees. Huge lag when shifting in reverse, never had any problems before. Been reading a bit, would rather not have to replace the tranny. Will look into the fluid situation. Out here in Cali, Livermore area. Any thoughts or ideas?
 
What do you mean by lag? Lag in shifting INTO reverse? Or lag when shifting from reverse to a forward gear?

I had a lag shifting from R to D in cold weather. When it warmed up the problem seemed to go away. Had my tranny drained and filled (not flushed) at the dealership and didn't seem to really help it... Then I had a friend that owns a garage do a drain and fill several thousand miles later. He ended up having an issue when doing it, and ended up draining and filling 3 times (using the same fluid I presume cause he didn't charge me for anything extra) and that seemed to fix the issue. So now at 145K miles, my transmission actually shifts better than it did at 20K miles...
