2004 vs 06+ FX Exhaust

Couple of questions regarding the FX exhaust.

I have an 04 FX45, my friend just bought an 06 and I noticed his exhaust is quite a bit louder than mine. Nothing that doesn't sound stock but its definitely louder on the 06.

Looking at both cars they both look stock, as far as we know they were never changed but again both cars were bought used. Any idea if there was any changes in the exhaust between both years?

Also Any idea whats the pipe size on the exhaust? I like the tone of the exhaust however I dont mind it louder every now & then, so I was considering an electric exhaust cutout.

Any input is greatly appreciated.
 
Are both fx's 45's? The exhausts should be the same.

The 1st gen FX exhaust should all sound the same, considering both have VK engines. Put both vehicles on the lift and see if they have stock cats, Y pipe, muffler.
 
06 FX45 exhaust is slightly different than earlier ones. But I don't know if that impacts sound, it's something to do with the length of the cat. It may just be that one car has more miles or something, exhausts do change tone over time.
 
During all my drives of FX's (I used to work at an infiniti dealership) The 2003-early 2004 FX35's were notably more aggressive sounding than later models.

I don't know if this same difference is apparent in the 45 models.
 
best way to find out is to check the db levels. Also it might sound louder if there is a loose part in the exhaust system, or leaks.
