2004 Infiniti FX45 - Flowmaster 80 series, with resonator or no resonator?

I installed the 80 series (had the installer weld the stock tips) and i kept the oem resonator. Their is minor drone at very low rpm (under 1400 rpm) but it's barely noticeable. I was seeking a deeper tone without being annoying as I have kids and live in a quiet neighborhood. Moreover I wanted to ensure its not too loud at cruising speeds. So far so good and it's been a year plus. I can't comment on gas mileage because it's not my daily driver anymore.

I was interested in getting a flowmaster muffler, but while i was at their website i noticed the directional arrows to indicate exhaust flow on the style muffler the FX needed while i was serching for the 2.5'' in/out

I cant think of any other way to mount this without going against the flow direction. I searched if flowmasters can be mounted backwards but it wasnt recommended. Any insight on the people who have flowmasters? Or it doesnt matter, the exhaust pipe gets welded onto the right upper 2.5 connector and the tips will be coming out of the left and right bottom 2.5 connectors while going against the recommended directional flow?

That picture is not the correct one for the FX. Here's the correct 80 Series crossflow mufflers - go to flowmastermufflers dot com and click on the 80 Series link. The stainless steel one - 842583 - seems like the only logical choice. I think it might be too loud for my taste, though, for everyday life. It sounds nice on Vancity's, though (I think that must be the one he has). I can't post links, yet, so I put the website in longhand. I hope that's OK. If not, can a mod let me know, please?

Cheers,
Glenn

ok i see what your talking about now, i went to a different area on the website and the search function only showed the pic i posted. i did some more research on the 80 series muffler and it just might be to loud for me, i drive the fx everyday, sounds great though. only if flowmaster had a 50 series that would work for us

I thought the same thing and searched to see if there was a 50 Series that could be installed or adapted, but I didn't find anything. I don't know if the Invidia true dual system would be any quieter, either. They sure do sound nice, though. I think the Stillen could be a bit quieter and has a nice tone, although it and the Invidia are pricey systems. I found a Borla stainless crossflow for $320. Borla's are very high quality, but I don't know how it would sound on the FX45.

Cheers,
Glenn
