+2 timing mod

I was doing some reading and noticed a lot of guys were doing this before. Wondering if anyone still has it done as i was thinking about doing it since i use 91+ octane already. I advanced the timing yeas ago when i had an Integra and it did make it quicker off the start. Did anyone notice any gains. I did see someone dyno after the +2 and gained 1 hp. I also assume it's very safe to do as some Infiniti/Nissan dealerships will do it for you. Just wondering if it's worth doing

I was +2 with cypher. And now I'm tuned... At some points my timing is +6 or more.

Decent mod but I wouldn't pay the dealership $150 for.

I've been doing it for the titan guys in my area for $25. If it knocks the ecu will auto retard it back down.

So maybe i'll do it, seems like there's no harm and some gain. I know it's easy to do so i will wait to find someone who can do it cheap. Definitely not going to pay a dealership to do it. 91 octane should be fine right as that's the highest octane for shell gas in Ontario. I only use shell

Any shop that tunes with upRev stuff should be able to help u out. Its a quick simple process, takes longer for car to warm up.

There is a hand full of shops in GTA.

I had +2 on my 2004 FX45, I did however run 94 gas. That was fine, no problems.
can we do this to a FX50s. ? If we buy a scanner....can we do this ourselves?

thanks

^didn't think about that, I'm sure you can do it if you have a Bluetooth OBD2 dangle and an Android that runs Car Guage PRO or Torque PRO.. I might actually try this today. Lol

Sent from my SGH-M919

Interesting! I have an Iphone so only the Torque pro was available to me and I couldn't change anything nor did I think that anything could reprogram the timing besides a tuner. That Car Gauge thing looks real interesting. I have my Elm but need an Android to try this out. $16 for a +2 would be fabulous!

Intersting. A lot of guys say they felt the difference. Some went back to stock after doing the +2 and felt the difference so they advanced the timing again. So i guess it's like a spacer, some guys feel it, some guys don't. Guess every FX responds to mods differently. i'll just do it since it's cheap and causes no harm and be done with it

Even if it did bump your power, you would never be able to feel a mod like this in terms of power gain. Maybe you would notice an increase in responsiveness or something like that, but definitely not in terms of power gain.

The mod itself does work. As someone stated above, during the UpRev tuning your timings are altered all across the board. This along with the rest of the tuning is what makes the bump in power and makes the car drive so much nicer.
So increasing the timing does do something. Exactly what it does without the rest of the tune is up for debate.

A spacer actually does increase hp, you can dyno it and it is repeatable. I'm not sure of the value of randomly adding +2 to the timing. If you look at actual tunes like Uprev, the timing advance is dynamic and depends on things like rpm and load because the factory timing settings are already dynamic. Going +2 across the board will likely help at low rpm since the engine is more inefficient there and advancing the timing gives the combustion process more time. That may be why people "feel" a difference, it would be slightly more responsive at low rpm. But at WOT on a dyno, +2 likely won't lead to any gains since that's at higher rpm's under load. Some dynos show a gain in the midrange and the change was originally created for Titans to help with a mid range flat spot so maybe there is something to it. Maybe the timing there is very conservative from the factory.

But keep in mind that the FX already requires premium fuel so advancing timing will just exacerbate knock. If you have bolt ons, you're going to be even more likely to have knock. Mine will knock on 87 and 89 and on occasion 91 (uphill in very hot weather). Luckily we get 93 here so it's not an issue locally. I'd hate to see what +2 does. Yes, I know Uprev advances timing, but that's dynamic and not a random across the board advance. The +2 mod came out before good tunes were widely available. It's a little long in the tooth now. If you can get it done for $20, sure, why not. But the better option would be to just get Uprev.

Nice response Shadow and i agree about the spacer adding hp, as many many fx guys and g guys agree it does but i have seen a few guys say they didn't feel anything. I know i felt something but i also put a lms cai on at the same time. That's why i was asking about the +2 mod as most threads i read were from like 2007-2009 so i was curious if anyone still had it. Your mention of the 91 octane has me worried as i prefer shell gas but here in Canada it's only 91 octane. I can get 93 from another gas station if i needed to. I guess you're right, if i can get it done for $20-$25 than why not otherwise i guess i should look elsewhere for a hp increase. I want to do exhaust but i love how stock sounds and i keep hearing not much hp increase in exhaust, guess that's why they say the spacer is the best performance mod for the money as it's the biggest hp increase of any mod near its price range

Our 91 octane is perfect for uprev. Going to chevron 94 won't get you any farther.

My tuner here in Vancouver prefers to tune and tell people to run shell 91, and the extra energy in the fuel does generally make more power.

Remember that higher octane fuels actually have LESS energy.

Really the only people who need to run out 94 grade gasoline here in Canada our those with FI applications.

Nice to know. Never had a problem with Shell 91 and i'll continue to use it even if i get the +2 timing done. Thanks for the reassurance
