+2 Timing Advance

I believe it is the different fuel grade available in different region. They have to choose an overall safe timing suitable for all different fuel grade, so they will not end up replacing the new engine every year for warranty.

I believe ECU tuning is not necessary. With the +2 timing, your overall MPG will go lower a bit. That's the sacrifices for additional few horses.

Awww, well, i guess it's okay then, thanks WhiteHair!

I spoke to a Infiniti dealer mechanic I know. I mentioned this and while he chuckled at the hope of a few HP, he said he would do it when I come in next week. I'll let you know.

PS: I still don't understand the reason behind this. I know what more timing does, but I don't get why Infiniti has a +2 degrees option? I like it, but why would they allow it?
It's not a +2 option. You can advance/retard the timing much more than just 2. It just happens to be the option that best benefits the average vehicle.

I guess I'm one of the few skeptics about this mod. I've done it and I don't feel anything different about my car. There is absolutely no change in fuel economy and absolute for difference in power. There is absolutely no difference. It's sort of like a BS performance chip with false claims. That's just me tho..

I have the opposite experience. my MPG went from ~17-18 to 19-20 and I can feel more on the butt dyno... maybe you need to do a tuneup? (air filter, oil change etc?)

My K&N cone filter looks brand new since i cleaned the heck out of it. I use mobil 1 synthetic and the oil only has 1k miles on it. It is still fresh and I change my oil every 4k.

Maybe it's just me. I just don't feel anything. I guess I'm just not sensitive to small changes in power. I didn't feel a thing with intake and spacer, but others were claiming they have felt amazing differences. Who knows. The only time I actually felt a difference was when I reset my ECU overnight after I installed my spacer. The car reacted quite a bit more than usual, but that went away after couple of days.

As for gas mileage, I have only been using 91 octane Shell ever since the car was purchased in 06 and we always average 19-20 mpg according to the trip computer. The car is driven 70-80% highway.

Isn't GTO a big skeptic on this +2 thing?

I wouldn't say I noticed too much of a difference. It's just like almost every other N/A mod, you don't really notice much change. There may be a little change there, but it's not anything you notice every time. It would be run to drop the timing down 2 and see if it seems slower.

I thought Ege did 0-60 tests though, and it did help?

Did the +2 timing adv, def felt a difference +10000000000000

Let me know if anyone needs it done in the Calgary, Alberta area.
