Anyone knows how to remove the steering wheel on the 2nd gen FX's? I have a beige interior and I want to remove it to paint it with color bond, I've used this to paint my front seats and it's perfect and my shift knob, now I want to paint the steering wheel because it's faded and ugly and it throws off my interior cause everything looks new except this, so if anybody can help me I'll be very much appreciative

REMOVAL
NOTE: When reconnecting spiral cable, fix cable with a tape so that fixing case and
rotating part keep aligned. This will omit neutral position alignment procedure during spiral
cable installation.
1. Set the vehicle to the straight-ahead position.
2. Remove driver air bag module. (Disconnect battery)

3. Remove steering wheel lock nut after steering is locked.
4. Remove steering wheel with the steering wheel puller (A) [SST: ST27180001 (J-25726-A)].

Thanks, so only the 2 small caps on the side and remove the 2 small bolts and that's it?

Yep. Be careful not to strip the two airbag torque screws. They can be on there very tight. If you're not disconnecting the battery, remember not to turn the key to the ON/ACC position. It will trip the airbag warning light with the airbag disconnected.

Ok, does it use a T30 torx or a T40 torx to remove these 2 bolts?

I want to remove the entire steering wheel to paint it. So it's those 2 small bolts plus the big bolt in the middle behind the air bag and that's it?

Not sure what size were the torx screws. Yep, in order to remove the steering wheel off the column, you need to remove the big center nut.

Sorry, but I really have no idea what to do in this case, everyday I try to figure things out in this forum but can't, i end up just finding to put a post and that's what I been doing but I'll try and see where to put my post in the right places, I won't post anymore till I figure this out 100%

Not difficult at all, since you have a 2009 FX you post your questions in the 2009 FX QX70 forum. In that forum you will see a break down of different categories. Select the category the best fits your question.

Hey coco, did you ever complete your interior project? How does the color bond hold up on interior plastic pieces? Got any pics?
