09+ FX35 Coolant Change Intervals

I'm a new owner, but I am knowledgeable about cars. My Infiniti dealer has a recommended coolant change at 30,000 mile intervals. Aren't our cars equipped with the 5-year coolant? Is there any reason to deviate from this unless I experience a discoloration of the coolant?
 
Don't listen to the dealer. Every new Infiniti since 09 and up come equipped with Nissan Long Life Blue Antifreeze. You can go up 5 years/60,000 miles on it. Just continue to keep and eye out on the fluid level and color and you'll be good.:top:


One thing I recommend though is a front and rear differential oil change and transfer case oil change at 30-45K miles.
 
Any specific reason you'd do diffs and transfer case that early? I was thinking trans at 30 and the others at 60.
 
I'll have to reread that then, I didn't think any fluid changes were required before 60K.
 
diffs and transfer case do at 30. Even the factory service manual recommends it.

By the way front and rear differential oil and transfer case oil are actually a cheap service to have performed at the dealer. I think I paid only like $120-$150 for all three of them together. Reason being is that the diffs and transfer case only require like a quart and a half of gear oil plus its just a matter of removing a couple of bolts and draining and refilling. Same procedure goes for the transfer case too. That uses Matic J fluid by the way.

For the transmission fluid I would change it at like 50-60K. They say our transmissions are "sealed" units and maintenance free, but in reality they are not. Just like all other transmissions they need their fluid flushed at certain time intervals. The transmission fluid Nissan uses is Matic S which is a synthetic fluid. So it will stay clean up to a good 60K miles before needing to be changed. I had mine flushed at 30K though just for a better piece of mind.

I also like to get a brake fluid flush every 2 years. At the dealer they charge around $100
 
Fluids and service are cheap compared to the parts they protect, I use the factory schedule as a guideline but change fluids based on driving habits, color of fluids (to the extent color can be an indicator), time (even if I don't drive the car often, I stick with x oil changes every y months), environment (sometimes I drive backroads which are more prone to dust), etc...
 
Yes, I'm all for preventative maintenance. Thanks for all the replies. Looks like every 30K is a good time to do everything but coolant!
 
I changed my front and rear deff. At 32k and dealer did some work on my transfercase the week b4 so they changed that...let's just say my deff. Oil did not need changing ...couldnt tell the difference between old and new..but I'm happy I changed it ...was the only way to find out if it was dirty ...got life time oil changes at the dealer so my oil gets changed every 3 months or less no matter how much I drive......I'm gonna change my coolant and transmission fluid this spring .
 
I think they are loaded with blue coolant only from '10 and up... First change is at 4yrs/ 60k miles , all others are 2 yrs/30k mile (for green coolant).
 
Hey guys im at 22,000 miles and i just looked at my coolant level thats in front of the car and theres o coolant except for the very bottom theres like alittle bit of green coolant. Its way below the miniumum. Should i refill? Also do i need to do a drain if i do.

I'd fill it ASAP at the radiator cap when it's cooled down (or else you'll have it spray out and burn you).

I'd probably drain and refill around. 30,000-50,000 miles. Sooner better, but based on your budget, unless you can do it yourself.
 
I havent seen the meter go above normal but i just saw it today and didnt think it was good. How do you drain the fluid and whats the best fluid to buy. Also whats the ratio suppose to be?

Buy the premixed formula since they use filtered water I believe. Any is fine, I buy the one with Danica on the front.

I never drained it myself, I just pay others like Handy Andy to do it for me:)
