Hi All,

My center console lid (very top part of the center console) latch broke last week. I have it tied down but it's getting annoying seeing cord holding it. I did call the dealership and see if they only sell the latch but I guess not. The guy said I have to buy a complete lid which will run me around $200. WTH! Does anyone here have any solution or maybe know off a place I can get replacements. You're help we will be greatly appreciated.

anyone parting out their FX hit me up ;)

Thanks for the time!

Drix

That's just a leather replacement not the actual armrest piece. Mine broke too so I just put velcro on the inside so it stays closed but I can open it whenever I need to.

I think I remember someone who said they fixed on their own but I can't remember who...it's just stupid that they won't sell just the top armrest part. I've been searching ebay for used ones with no luck

the bottom of mine broke. i took heavy sand paper , then jb welded it. seems to hold for now
I did that too, but after a few months it broke off again. Ended up ordering online for about 170. The parts dept guy here knew exactly what I was talking about when I started to tell him what the piece was. Seems to be a common problem if you use your console a lot.

I have the exact same problem and my dealer is trying to sell it to me for 300 with replacement cost. For a stupid 5 dollar latch I've been unwilling so far. Im trying to look for alternatives but unsuccessful so far.

I dont think the plastic latch piece itself is worth more than a $.59 cents. So think of the profit on that little piece of plastic if they do decide to sell it. Of course selling the whole armrest I guess still profit. Not too many people would shell out $200 outright to remedy this. I got tired of having a rubber band around the armrest so I gave in. Love the velcro idea, wish I thought of that last year.
@Watzupdoc...just screw off the old and screw in the new. Definitely not worth the 150 labor charge. No more than 15 minutes to do at a snails pace.

This just happened to me as well. I'm trying to glue the clip but I'm not expecting it to hold very long. I'm thinking of removing the spring so the lid stays down and that might solve it. Wish I could find a junker lid and just remove the latch.

You can't make. New latch because it's one piece with the chrome plated button

I tried to glue and it came apart again. Wish I could find a junk part to replace it with. Anyone have a console lid they want to sell cheap?

what kind of glue did you use? i used JB weld. i sanded the hingle. took a knife to it to make deap scratches so the glue will dig in and dry.

Wow, guess I'm not the only one. This just happened to me this morning on my '07 fx. In the process of trying to get the plastic tip off it fell into the abyss of the armrest. I'll try and tinker with it after work tonight, but my have to do the velcro method in the meantime while waiting for a used one to pop up on ebay or something.

Tried the heavy duty velcro route, but this FL humidity wouldn't let the 3M adhere for long. Lasted a couple hours and kept coming off over night. So, I used a small metal L bracket that I had left over from Lord knows what in my 'junk drawer'. It was just the right size, JB Welded it to the broken plastic remains of the stock hook. Applied a clothes pin for pressure and tried it out 24 hours later. Voila, so far so good!!!

So the infamous center console clip broke off on my car today. I was driving this morning to work when the center console arm rest just popped open on its own. Anybody here had a permanent solution without having to shell out $200 bucks for a total replacement?

Andrew, what glue did you use?

Just called the dealer. The replacement lid goes to the tune of $229.80 + taxes of course. Shitzzz. So pissed right now. :at-wits-end:
