Is it possible to swap the climate control unit in a 04 infiniti fx to the newer 06-08 I'm wondering if it's been done and if it's easy to do I jus like the way it looks and thought that it would give my FX a newer feel ?

You will need to change the whole dashboard for sure, since the HVAC has a slightly different opening on 06+ models. I don't think it's worth it IMO.
The wiring is different and would be too costly to swap it out.
In 04 the climate and radio controls are connected to the head unit with a ribbon cable, where on 06+ the front panel has a separate dedicated power cables with a different socket.

You would be better off selling your car and buying a 06+ unit.
Even taking parts off of a donor vehicle you are looking at a ridiculous amount of time and energy. The entire dash and center console will need to be swapped, as well as the wiring harnesses will need to be modified. Even then you might run into some weird glitches.
As others have said not worth it.
