04 BMW e46 M3 vs. 06 Subaru Impreza STI

get a used subaru now then get a newer BMW when you get out of school
(this is coming from a college sophmore who is also in business)

edit: obv not many people looked at the price range lol

335 come is sedan aswell looks to be in the mid twenties and its 300+ hp TT

or take a loan out and get the m3 sedan

i think i drooled

But im looking at a 06 330xi, great price IMO. Two of my cousins also had a 330xi as their college cars so time to finish the tradition.

@jordan - it doesnt make sense for me to get such an expensive car lol, if i went to a school with better road conditions then maybe my parents would consider it but it'll prob get dented and abused in cornell...

LOl I was joking...... eveyrone started saying get the 335xi etc. etc so i thought i'd add a joke in there since the 335xi is a twin turbo engine from the old e46 m3.....

the 330xi is just a regular v6...no twin turbos there.
you should have kept the fx :-/ why not buy another fx? lol

haha its cool, im massively tired from studying from midterms so i can barely even detect when people are being sarcastic. Ive been thinking about buying another fx, but if my brother is taking mine then i can just drive it around in the summer and crap (granted he doesnt move to west coast or sthing). I also really want a manual, been playing gran turismo 5 day and night with a logitech g25 so now im itching for the real thing

IMO BMW 3series suck when it come to space... Don't like it at all a Jetta feels more spacious than a 325. If I ever get a BMW it have to be a 5series and up.

+1 with Jbaker. Another older FX might solve the problem. And since it is old don't have to worry much about the bumpers getting messed up.

I do like the new STI WRX hatchback tho..

I've been reading up on some bmw boards and phillip is right about the reliability. I wish i had a personal friend who was selling a m cause most likey they were probably driven hard. The same goes for the sti.

I think seriously considering an audi a4 would be a good bet... I have never driven one, only sat in them.

a buddy of mine had an A4.. bout 8-9 years back. He loved the A4, but had so many problems with it that he turned it back in. Not sure how they are nowadays, but I tend to put Audi right there with BMW in terms of reliability.. which is hit or miss.

my vote, bug your parents to keep the fx & bring it up to school with you

+1 on that. Keep the FX or get an older one. It'll be good enough for clients if you take good care. Mine has 100,000 miles and has no issues other than regular maintenance and tires. By the time you have a job, you'll be able to buy whatever you want, cuz you pay the note. Or maybe you'll just decide to keep the FX forever, like me!

E46 330Xi would have my vote. Heck even the E90 330Xi would be good. The M54 in the E46s are very good engines. I have owned 5 BMWs in the last 6 years and have enjoyed every single one of them. The E46s I have owned have been extremely reliable. If you are mechanically inclined I would suggest a Bantley manual for any BMW you purchase so that you can accomplish some of the maintainence and repairs on your own.

Just for reference I am and was a college student when I went through all those BMWs. And every one was well used by me (drive an average of 40K hard miles per year). I would still have one of them if it had not washed away during Ike.
