03 FX 35 Engine

Hey guys, my cars engine is giving me problems I have tried pretty much everything to get it fixed but nothing has worked so far. So I showed it to Infiniti, they suggested that I should get the engine replaced. They gave me a quote of $16,000 and I do not want to spend that much. I have found bunch of 2004 engine but not 2003. So, I was wondering if anyone knows if you can actually install a 2004 engine instead of 2003.

I would appreciate any help.

i actually found a used one for $1,500 plus installation, so thats doesn't seem like a bad deal. I am going to check it out soon, hopefully everything works out and it will have a motor that runs properly!
 
The piston is making this "clanking" sound when I turn the engine on, and the sound stays all the time. Sometimes it feels like there is no power and engine is just giving up. It picks up when it gets into 3rd or 4th gear.

03-08 engine will perfectly fit. But better 03-05 ;-)
