Thanks for the link. That's great so it can be done and in black it should be a bit "easier" I think.
 
well, my paintshop says it can be done :cool:

I'm doing it now, I'll have results here later... there is some dissasembly involved, the front door panels & mirrors, the lower belt moldings & the weatherstrips & glass run channels all have to be removed... it's not huge work but it's not a little thing either... I'll show more details after

I'm doing them gloss black/clearcoat... body color would be exact same procedure, but as being a trim item I don't think body color is a great idea here really, depending on the color doing it the color of the car may make it look cheap, those dg ones don't look bad at all in body color either, so... but it's the same work weather body color or just black unless your going to go cheap with rattle can type job...
 
been working on this thing most of the day, I took it apart myself & then my painter takes over since around lunch time... many hours in prepping for paint... my painters stressed cause he's working on my car & he knows how nutz I get with my car... it's 1/2 past 6pm & he's still in the booth, he'll be there till it's done no matter how long it takes, but the longer he takes the better the chances are that I won't be able to drive it home tonight, I wanna rush him but then I don't want to rush him, so I wait... :err::biggrin:

jeff, some of the pieces are not too practical to remove... the uppers are very thin & removing them means replacing them really, so I left them on, almost imposible to get off 100% perfect intact... also, the qtr glasses def stay, not worth the trouble of cutting them out just for paint... I didn't try to remove everything, just what's necissary, was easier to just cover the whole fx & do it this way...

doc, I'm not doing them the same paint as my fx, not black pearl, just gloss black, to match my lower trims...

can't drive home with it in pieces with no mirors, if I can't cure it enough for assy I'll leave it here tonight...

yeah, the weathertechs are what really prompted this emergency trim redo... of course this trim always bothered me, but it wasn't until I got the weather techs, then tried to put them on friday... had to remove the stick on ones, well, then the moldings realy looked like crap, so I told my painter that's it, monday were painting the trim... gonna look nice with the weathertechs... also, just FYI, the weathertechs are so far superior to the stick on crappy ones, wish I would have known just how much better before wouyld have gotten them long ago... the old stick on ones were extremely noisey if you cracked the window while at speed, the weathertechs, much more areodynamic, so much better, big big thanks to aiya for geting the weathertechs for me... rich is the man, always looking out... :tup:

painter just left, 1st bake cycle then unmasking & another bake cycle... the fx is in pieces, think I might have to drive another car tonight, damn, I miss my fx already :frown:
 
they look good, perfect match to the rear window wing thing... same exact finish, everything matches nice now. boy, sucks that I just detailed the whole thing on friday before I pulled the stick on vent visors off... gotta detail the whole thing again now:rofl:
