Jbaker1121's FX50 FOG LIGHT thread

On the Q50 I had a few months ago everything was LED including the foglights too. They were definately brighter than HID and lit the road up much better at night just my opinion.....

^those are different than just throwing LED bulbs in though, lol

im waiting for the first person to retrofit the new Q LED fogs into the FX. Even lexus has a set for the RX/IS models, and it looks perfectly possible to fit into the FX fog openings...

I've looked into retrofitting a few LED running lights/fogs from different models but haven't gone through with anything yet.

Welp, I just drove home in the fog/rain and messed with the fog lights (2500K Nokya H8 bulbs). They neither help nor hurt my vision. I could just make out a yellow tinge of light with the fogs on. I'm going to order that set of LED bulbs and give them a try. I'll change them out in a few weeks when the weather finally breaks here in the Northeast.

I installed some stuff in the front end today.

First was the KBcarstuff $50 LED H8/H11 fog light bulbs (5000K). They seem high quality, but they are H11 base, so I had to shave down one of the barbs to get it to fit in the housing. Not a big deal, but they should be advertised as H11, not H8/H11. Anyways, they fit and work fine and throw alot of light. Definitely brighter than the OE halogen bulbs. They match my Osram CBI headlight bulbs well. However, they do scatter light around, just light an HID bulb does in a halogen reflector housing. They don't seem to produce much glare, but you can see the light on road signs and against my garage door. Overall, I like the look but they will probably HURT vision in the rain/snow/fog enough that I will turn them off during inclement weather. But my OEM bulbs were useless in fog, as well. So, if you want to match your headlights for less money than HID, these are a good option.

Next, I added Sylvania 168/194 LED bulbs to the city lights. The bases fit in the sockets firmly, so I had no worry about them falling out. I also like how the dome is slightly frosted so it scatters the light evenly over the entire bulb. No hot spots like most LED bulbs. They are advertised as 6000K but seem to more like 5000-5500K. At $10 a bulb they aren't cheap, but I really like the frosted bulbs and the thick bases.

Would that be a Clearance Light? It is saying see Infiniti dealer for replacement. Does the light have to be removed to replacement

what? no, you go through the inner fender and swap bulbs. Not sure what a Clearance light is.

Does anybody have a good DIY for the fogs? The DIY on here is down - the pictures are no longer hosted.

I tried following the video here [ CarCareKiosk All Videos Page - Infiniti FX35 2010 ] but couldn't get it. I unscrew the underpanel below the bumper, remove the 2 screws along the fender. This all loosens everything up but I can't pry out the inner fender moulding to get to the fogs. Hmmm

I always go through the fender. Its ~6 screws, one bolt and a few clips. plenty of room to see what you are doing. Don't need to crawl under front of car or jack it up.

See my DIY for changing the foglight surrounds here: same initial steps to get behind. You can swap the bulbs out this way.

DIY: Install 2012 + Chrome Foglight surround on 09-11 2nd Gen FX

Also, for the driver side fog light you can squeeze your arm in through the lower grille to swap the bulbs out if you're dexterous ;)

I have the yellow 3000k on mines, I like the look better then the all 6k (y)
