Well... After 5 1/2 hrs i have completed my Gen 3 install. It was so involving that I couldnt get many pics for my diy. length was not right, i sawed right through a wire (re connected btw) pain in the ass to get the breather tubes on!!! (the gap was too small) I apologize in advance for the folks who were waiting for a great diy... DONT EXPECT THIS INTAKE TO BOLT ON SIMPLY!!! AND IF YOU DONT HAVE ANY PATIENCE AND FABRICATING SKILL TAKE IT TO A SHOP! Anyways I gotta go drive her now! Sound clips soon!

Explain your issues... What length was not right? What gap was too small?
What did you use to make the passage ways around the radiator? Hole saw? Dremel?

Get a tune it will help the intakes work better and more efficiently and get a few extra horsepower in the process. Without a tune you might be robbing it of that and confusing the ecu as well.

i am getting a tune Asap, and from what I have heard from the HR guys the intake does not do much except add power. AFR ratio and all of that is fine.

the length of the intake? The gap between the breather tube and intake(which I already explained). Just be patient a DIY is coming your way. I just drilled a bunch of hole in the radiator support and smashed it out.

Would have loved to see a DIY and sound clip on this. Have been looking for a good intake set up and this definitely intrigued me the most.

Havent had the time and still dont have the time as I am purchasing another car currently. Sound clip is posted above already. If you REALLY want to know how to install these PM me your phone #. Another reason I was hesitant putting a DIY up was because I made the intake work by doing a hack job then I eventually got some custom made pieces.

well 5 months later.... ill be tackling this project soon. ordered my Gen 3 last night. should be here by the weekend. Ill try and take my luck at a DIY.

Cool! I wish there were more simple bolt-ons available for our cars like there are for the Gen 1 35s.

It wasnt hard....

So my little write up isnt as Picture filled as i may have liked.
I got myself a used gen3 off a 370z. (after hearing Illest's issues with length) (IT PAYED OFF)
***So ill start with that... get the 370z kit.... it must be longer than the g37 kit.
***acquire yourself a 2"5/8 hole saw with the arbor... ( the pilot bit is unnessacary)
***While youre at the hardware store get your self a variety pack of vaccum caps... and a foot length of 5/8ths vaccum hose.
***You dont need to remove the front bumper. Just the grill insert (5x 10mm nuts)
*** Remove Air cover. 4 Clips
*** Remove air boxes. and engine cover.
*** unplug & remove MAF's put somewhere safe.
*** install upper Gen3 tubes.
*** The PCV system mainly connects to the drivers side But has an equalizing tube that reaches over the passenger side. i capped and removed this. Mainly becuase it would require a reducing coupler to make fit.

*** Make some holes..... the radiator core support is mostly plastic but has some metal frame work so be aware.
*** On the drivers side the ideal spot was right next the to AC hardline support Bolt.
*** The Passenger side i just copied the location. BUT !!! there is a sensor mounted there so you'll have to relocate it lower with a self tapping screw into the plastic. (I cut out the original mounting rivet for said sensor)
*** now that the holes are drilled... feed the lower gen 3 tubes up through and connect.
*** reinstall MAF's
*** install Filters.
***Put Covers back on. The air cover is kind of useless but i felt it looked nicer until i make something better.

Overall took me a couple hours because i had to get a smaller hole saw.

that looks (and sounds) amazing! notice a significant difference in how it drives now???

WoW. That's awesome! I actually going to have some Z1 Motorsport 370z HFCs installed and tuned by UpRev here in Austin in the second week of November. I may look into getting them to install this at the same time. I initially did a "hybrid" using the post MAF silicone couplers from Z1 Motorsports a little over a year ago. The FX felt a bit quicker at high end and had a more noticeable roar on WOT. I had a Nismo 370z before and had these Stillen G3 intakes installed, definitely a noticeable difference. I currently have an 09 FX35 RWD. Thanks for the posts and write ups. Good to see that the bumper doesn't have to come off; it also makes for easy maintenance of the air filters too.

FX35 - Custom intake with Z1 Motorsports post-MAF silicone intakes and K&N drop-in filters

Just out of curiosity... how many of you guys would like a DIY for installing a long tube VQ (HR and VHR) intake system for a 2nd gen FX35/37 such as the Stillen Gen 3 for the g37 and the Takeda intake? I am going to be purchasing the Stillen Gen 3 for my car and if people arent really interested I dont want to waste my time making a DIY that will not help anyone.
Definitely interested!! Yes for me!
