NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Infiniti's new compact, lightweight 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo engine is the most advanced V6 engine that the brand has ever offered, striking an ideal balance between drivability, efficiency, and performance.

The 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo is an all-new engine from the new and exclusive VR-series powertrain family, born out of the brand's longstanding heritage of V6 powertrain production. The new engine has been engineered to empower the driver and offer increased power and torque and higher levels of efficiency than any comparable predecessors from the company.

New V6 engine to enter production in 2016
The all-new 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine is due to enter production during 2016 and will be manufactured at the powertrain plant in Iwaki, Fukushima, Japan. The first application of the engine family will be in the 2016 Infiniti Q50 sports sedan, which will be in Infiniti showrooms in North America beginning in late winter.

An electric motor improves valve timing by reducing any delay at the start of acceleration, making throttle response faster. Acceleration is limitless.

A unique turbo speed sensor allows for 10 percent more power by allowing the turbine blade speeds to reach up to 220,000 rpms. Turbo speed peaks higher for endless power.

Precision-cut design helps achieve maximum performance by quickly compressing and circulating the air within the turbo chargers.

Water-cooled air becomes denser and more oxygen rich as it travels to the engine - which means less turbo lag and quicker acceleration.

I wonder if sometime in the future will they be sharing this engine with the QX70. I'm assuming since they killed the V8 engine :(
 
While the 300 horsepower version is fitted with a single water pump, the 400 horsepower engine uses two water pumps for more effective management of heat when under operating at higher loads. In addition, for the 400 horsepower variant an optical turbo speed sensor gives a 30 percent power boost to the turbo system by allowing the blades to spin faster.

These outputs have been achieved while ensuring an improvement in fuel efficiency of up to 6.7 percent. This represents a best-in-class power-to-efficiency ratio for the 400 horsepower unit.

With as complex as all new cars are getting these days, it makes buying the extended warranty a no-brainer. If you plan on keeping the vehicle for a long time, they are a must IMO.
 
Wonder how much extra boost they need to get the 100hp. Extra water pump is like bigger intercooler. I'm curious about how the optical sensor works for the turbos. Wastegates are electric so I guess it just ups the boost based on what it's measuring. I want to know what it's measuring and why they need it to up the boost. Seems like they could just up the boost.

Integrated turbo manifold may limit modifications in the future though.

And...? Every version of every type of engine has been made or is being made. Sort of like saying they've made 20" wheels before.

I think the point was this is all new and has lots of advanced features. Comparing it to an iron block VG that ended production in 1996 (in the US) seems like an apples to oranges comparison.

Nissan has already made a 3-liter v6 twin turbo in the past that equipped the 300zx.
