Where to buy valve cover

Hey fellas - Wifes 05 FX35 I'm pretty sure has the infamous leaky cover. No oil underneath , but slight oil burn smell and loosing some oil. She is due for plugs so i want to do both at the same time. Is the any way to tell which side is leaking without taking everything off just to put it right back on to order the the part?
I did a search and it sounds as though you cannot use the old cover and buy a gasket to fix (???) If thats the case (hopefully not) where the best /cheapest place to buy everything? Thanks
 
I'm doing this soon and you can change just the gasket for the valve cover no problem
it's the gasket seals for the spark plug that might be an issue some people drill them out
but I would just get a new cover
 
Pull a couple of coil packs out and look into the spark plug well. If you see oil, you need new valve cover. The seal around the plug well is pressed between the inner and outer layer of the valve cover. a few years ago, there was a company doing retrofit by drill out and replace seals around the well. Personally, I would get a new cover and done with it until next time it leaks again. Look on ebay, there are many and good price too.
 
The 2 that usually leak are the 2 rear ones nearest to the firewall. One on each side.

prob just the gasket. Got mine done at 70k on my 05 FX35. Check the plugs, the ones covered in oil is the side its leaking on.

like matrix said, mine was the rear 2 on passenger side. Looked like they were dipped in oil
 
Hey guys, got a question. For the past two years the FX has been leaking from both valve covers. Especially the rear ones, when i changed the plugs it was soaked in oil including one coil. Would this cause any rough idle and poor gas mileage?

you answered your own question.... plugs covered in oil. Yes that would likely cause a number of things including rough idle etc. Sounds like you need a gasket as well
 
Alright well wife and i went to get a hoagie, came back home, pulled in the garage and I could see a little faint smoke coming from the drivers side headlight. No leaking fluids that i could see would this be a normal sign for a leaky valve cover gasket? Thanks guys. I'm gonna deep dive tomorrow on it, just wanna get a little piece of mind right now.

Might be the gasket around the valve cover leaking on the the manifold. I've seen it happen on a few vq30.

The repair process is the same but u don't need the valve cover, just the gasket @ $10. But your already in there and the covers are known to be bad at some point so maybe consider replacement of covers for a one and done.[emoji1]

Update : Well fellas yesterday morning I wanted to check out the plug wells and decided to do the plugs since i was already on n there. Picked up 6 NGK's per the book and a PCV valve and started on the drivers side. Those plugs and walls had no signs of leaks. Jumped over to the passenger side and clean as well.... Btw, that back passenger coil is a biotch to remove. I thought I was gonna break it! No room at all to move it.
Anyhow, I'm gonna remove the pans and look from the bottom when I get some time.

Hopefully it doesn't get much worse anytime time soon. I could barely get the passenger side coil off, I cant imagine how to get the cover off. There has to be an easier way.
 
I had to loose some hoses and unclip some wire harness to access those back plugs in mine.

Back plugs are easy to get out. Its the damn coil thats above them. I was affraid when bending the back passenger coil when trying to get it outta the way that it woud harm something inside it.... I could imagine what it takes to get thise valve covers off
 
It's doable, I did both my valve cover gaskets this past summer. Started early in the morning finished in the afternoon.
