LED Fog Lamps keep failing

Hello all,

I've got a strange problem. After a few months after the purchased of the FX, I changed the OE halogen fog light bulbs to LEDs. The driver side lasted for about 2 months before failing. I verified there's power going to the fog lamp connector. At the time, I thought it might be just a bad LED lamp. I purchased a new set from a different vendor, and the bulbs seem different as they look visually different. After about 2 weeks, the passenger side failed. At this time, I was puzzled. I got a third set of LEDs from a completely different style and different vendor. Now, the driver side just failed after about 6 months of use.

Is anyone else experience a similar issue?
I'm considering running a relay directly from the battery to bypass the OE wiring.

I found that the LED fogs are pretty useless. They are never bright enough to actually provide some light, its' mostly for looks. And they kept failing for me too. Then I got a cheap HID kit and that didn't last long either. So I just went with really yellow bulbs and it looks cool and light is actually useful

Actually, mine are pretty bright and serve as fog lights.
Last night, I did another visual inspection to see what was wrong and touch some of the wires, and the light came back on. Perhaps, the connector was loose.

guess it depends on the LED bulbs then. I wanted the yellow so I got some sweet yellow bulbs. I like that look.

You are from Peace River? I was just there a month ago, my gf's cousin works as a cook in a hotel there so we went for a visit.

Did you guys bought the led buld from a "known" brand or something on ebay for 20$?

Just because i want to buy some good one, but if it cost me 120$ to get them burned in 6 month, no thx..

Mine were all good brand LEDs. They range from $50 to $80 for a pair.
The more I think about why the LEDs might be failing, I'm leaning towards heat. Canadian version FX uses fog lights for DRLs. During the summer months, they are pretty much on all the time.

I've tried to replace my fogs with quality brand HID and LED's...for some reason it doesn't last very long. I had the same problem as well where one side will turn off and another time the opposite side turns off. One of the HID kits (I think) burnt out something in the IPDM, unless it was coincidence...highly doubt it. So I just went back to standard halogen bulbs.

I know others had no issues with various lighting setups but it just wouldn't work for me.

There lies your problem. Don't know which LED's do you have but if I had guess you are using something like this


If that is the case I would suggest switching to a real LED kit something like what is below


This way you will have a longer lasting bulb and will also notice a considerable difference in light output, compared to the first option.
I have been running a similar kit on my M37's fog lights and have not had a problem. Light output is great.
