I need some help guys. Here's my issue, If I let the FX sit overnight and try to start it it wont start. Everything seems normal I get the green key light, I hear the fuel pump prime, then when I go to crank nothing happens. No cranking, just one click sound then that's it. I've tried with both keys and I get the same result. So far if I try it again right after the first try, it starts up normal. Any ideas? I replaced the car battery 1 year ago so that should be good. I also replaced both key FOB battery's about 6 months ago. Everything else works as normal. The car has 150k on it and its a 2004. Thanks in advance.

Im leaning towards the starter?

It sounds to me your starter is not catching. I had the same problem. Problem gone after I replaced the starter. Replacing the starter in our car is a PIA. Had remove the drive shaft from the hub in order to take it out.

Yay! Cant wait. Which one did you get?

And do I get the starter motor and the starter solenoid?

By the way, its not an isolated cold start problem anymore.

My brother helped me replace mine last year on the FX45.. I forgot if it was autozone or advanced autoparts, but it was about $100 re manufactured w/warranty. starts up great everytime, no more click click. it wasn't to hard to take out, but to put back in required some tight maneuvering and pushing down on a AC line or trans line to get it to slide in. took about an hour.

I didn't pay much attention to the old one once its out.

Man, you luck out that its only took an hour for you. I spent 4 or 5 hours. Most of it was trying to take it out without disassemble the strut and drive shaft. I finally gave in and took apart the strut and drive shalf.

we managed to get it without removing the strut and cv joint. the black two lines where in the way, but we removed the nut like you did and pushed against the lines to fit the new starter. it was tight and we almost gave up, but it got in there.

before all of that, put a new battery in. My FX50 was doing this up in Buffalo when it sat overnight in the cold weather. it was just that the battery was a little old. Also, these cars (or my 50 at least) don't really like the cold as far as starting up the v8....

Well, at 114k miles my 2004 FX45's starter just quit. Tried hitting it a few times so I could drive it to the mechanic but no go - it had to be towed. Total for a new starter $482.
