Basically what the title says. I recently sold my wife's 04 Acura TL and got a 2012 G37x loving it so far (On weekends of course as its her daily driver:tongue:). I have a 2004 FX35 and considering selling it and wanting to replace it. What common issue have you seen with the 2nd gen ? Looking at 2010 and 2011 models FX. What other cars have you guys considered ?
I was looking at MDX but just don't like the interior styling and the price seem to be few thousand $ more. I was considering also considering X5 and Cayenne but just to scared to own a European car with all their maintenance needs and cost. The 04 Fx I've had has need close to nothing and running great! Infinit must have made a great car if I like it so much I am considering its next gen

The biggest issue I experienced was buying the 3.7 instead of the 5.0 lol. Once upon a time I owned an '07 FX35, too. So glad I got the 50. Just something to think about.

Thanks for that feedback but I was definitely considering the FX50 until I found it it was a good 4-6K more than its FX35 partner, harder to find used 2009-2011 and looks like it gets much less MPG.

The 50s were hard to find for me too. Had a tough enough time finding an AWD version of the 35 in this part of the country. The only gripe I have about it is the 7 speed tranny is crap compared to the 5 in my M35.

I agree with Peej get the 50 if you can find one, sure the milage is not as good but the performance will outweigh the difference. Quite frankly IMHO none of the FX's get good mileage as they are quite heavy so I wouldn't let that sway you. As far as the Acura I agree I don't like the interior either, however they do have a decent towing capacity and it is still a Honda product which is good. The X5 is expensive and you are correct the maintenance is expensive and also I wouldn't get one with the 3.0 so the larger motors are going to give you the same mileage issues. As far as the Cayenne, you also have expensive maintenance and don't forget VOLKSWAGON, PORSCHE, AUDI = electrical issues regardless of what anyone says that seems to be the Achilles heel with any of the three! In the end, I have an 08 FX35 AWD and im also considering an upgrade. I too have looked at the same cars you mentioned and I'm leaning toward a 45 or a 50 AWD. In the past I lived in FL so the AWD wasn't an issue, now that I'm up north this last winter was a bad one and my FX ran circles around everything else in the snow. I also have a Chevrolet 2500 4x4 and there was no comparison to which one was better and safer. In the end my wife drove the Fx , the Beemer was left in the garage and I drove the truck! I tell my friends that my FX is like a mountain goat and will go through just about anything and will make you feel safe doing it! Good luck in whatever you chose, I hope my opinion helps.

Honestly the difference in fuel economy isn't really that bad. Yeah it's going to take more gas, but it's not going to bleed you dry at the pumps.

Mark my words, if you end up buying gen 2 FX35/37, at some point you will regret not holding out for the 50. It has power for days, man, and is the engine that FX platform should've been built around. There are a few other folks on here that upgraded to the 50 and I'm pretty sure they'll all agree with what I'm saying here.

If you're going to do it, do it right. :smile (2):

i am considering a fx37 too... never looked at the 5.0 because i assumed it was just a bigger engine and more gas? but hearing your posts i am having second thoughts.. would you mind expanding in detail? pm me if you like your whip is sick. respect!

2nd gen are so much more refined. I had two 05 fx with sport and recently went 2011 with sport and love it. Little more subdues but a lot more twch

I had a 2nd Gen FX35, then I switched to the FX50S, what a difference, I liked my 35 but I am in love with the 50, difference in mileage is minimal but the difference in power and sound is amazing.

I agree with patrick. I too bought a 2014 3.7qx70 wich i ended up trading in for my 5.0. I figured after modifying it with exhaust k&n filters & what not i would end up wasting just as much gas as the 5.0. So why didnt i just get the v8 in the first place! But look at all the extra power you get. Deffinitely worth it.

Just wanted to follow up so everyone gets some closure on the topic I opened. I test drove several cars in search to replace my 2004 FX35.
I caved and ended up getting a 2nd gen Fx35. Yes I wanted a FX50 as everyone recommend just wasn't willing to pay the $6-$8K more for car with more miles on it and not easy to find the color combo I wanted.
The FX I got is in Mint condition inside and out and came with extended Infiniti warranty. Got it at a great price from private seller, so I am happy with my choice.
The 2nd gen FX is surprisingly quicker than the 04 I had (FX50 must be a monster). I am getting avg 20-22mpg and rarely put the car on highway. Very happy with interior layout and Bose sounds better also. The cool air seats in hot NC summer are just GOLD!
My only complaints are the front grill is overly aggressive but knew that going in and 20 inch wheels it came with are ok are easily replaced otherwise looks like Infiniti did a great job take a great car (1st gen FX) and improving it!

Congrats on the new ride...what year did you get? Pics??

2010 FX35 RWD with Navi in Platinum Graphite Metallic with 20 inch wheels
No pic yet just got done washing, claybar and some wax
I am on search for some 22 inch wheels though just scratching my itch that won't go away

Congrats on the new car! I've recently decided to keep my 2011 FX35 as my daily. It's a great car. My only complaint is that the doors seem to ding quite easy. I've had a few dings from just rocks that kicked up on the rear doors, but other than that, it's a unique car!
