Broken coilover: replace, repair, or else

so to make long story short, Monday night I broke front driver side coilover in my Mini Cooper S (I have Megan racing coilovers all around) hitting a pothole in downtown Houston the end-link went out as well. I know its a long shot, but anyone knows if there is a way to buy just a single front coilover? if not, how about both fronts? Or anyone knows how to go about fixing the coilover I have (it broke by the plate at the top)? I know there are several vendor guys on the forum sell aftermarket parts, I would really appreciate if you guys chime in. Thanks in advance...

Not sure if this will help, but for reference

It looks like the strut broke off of the mount. Could just replace the strut no? If its even available tho.

Yep, agreed with Edwin. The strut is a wear and tear part. Replacement should be available. A few of us with Kido Coilovers have replace the front struts.

Remove the spring, bellow, rubber stop, and adjusting rings. Twist the bottom bracket off the strut body. How is the top plate looking. Can it be reuse?

Usually you just need to replace the shock cartridge only. Let me see if they are available for EZ Street Series.

@mishanja, how long have you had the coilover? How bad was the pothole that broke up the part? I ask only because I was considering Megan Racing C/O for my FX, and given how bad the streets are in Toronto I would have the same concern of something breaking right off if I hit a bad pothole.

I would say about 20k miles... the hole was pretty bad, and it did not help that I was lowered to the max.... :disapointed::disapointed::disapointed: overall, i would not buy Megan as this is not the first time I hear about these snapping, at least the ones made for Mini Cooper... Infiniti might be different

Top plate is unscuffed :smile (2): so definitely reusable...

This is a pretty amazing failure. You would think that there's not a lot of shear stress on the shock itself. Impressive. :)

On the front, there can be a decent amount of stress on the shock. On any Macpherson strut suspension, the shock is under lateral and vertical loads. So every time you turn or hit a bump, there is a ton of force transmitted directly to the shock and a lot of it is lateral.
