Click when braking at low speeds

A few weeks ago, I noticed a click coming from the front end when I would hit the brakes. This only happens in parking lots or stuck in traffic, at very low speeds. When I step on the brake, I feel a click through the pedal when the brakes begin to engage. I can also hear it. If I step on the brakes hard, no click. Only when going around 5mph and I lightly engage the brake pedal do I hear a click. Nothing seems loose up front, but I haven't done a really thorough inspection yet. Roll down the window and can't hear it from the outside, it's mostly just felt through the brake pedal. If I release the brake pedal, then step on it again before stopping, no click. I need to actually stop the car, then start moving again, then step on brakes again for the click to come back.

I haven't replaced any major suspension components, so at the moment, it could be anything. Ideas?
 
Shadow asking for ideas? Uh oh. Had a similar problem on old fx and found the brake place had put the shims in incorrectly behind the pads.

Could be a control arm bushing clicking. once you start going it moves back & then when you brake it moves back and clicks. Also the brake pad shims might be loose or missing, or a pad a tad worn on one sliding edge of the pad would cause it to click right after you take off & stop.
ive seen a couple of cars with this similar issue.
 
Thanks, I'll check the shims first. Brakes went on a year ago, but you never know if something worked loose. And I'll look at the control arms as well. They're original and I've been at a low ride height for a while now - the angle on them isn't pretty.

And this may or may not be related, but I've noticed that lately when I am on the brakes for a while at a full stop, then I let off to accelerate, they sometimes release with a pop. It's as if the pad was stuck to the rotor and then broke free. It's hard to explain, but it's happened enough times now that I started noticing.
 
Jack the vehicle and take calipers and pad off. Very easy to do. Put ceramic pad grease on the clips ,where the pads sits. Also, on the slide pins and a very lite coat on back side of the pads. This helps when reinstalling.

I'll check the brakes, everything was greased when I installed in August 2013. FX50 brake setup so it's fixed calipers. Once I look over everything, I'll report back.
