R35 GTR, RS5, or M4???

Ok guys. I am adding another car to my family. Wife drives a E90 3 series. I daily an FX35 of course. I want anotger car for the weekend and just in case sometging goes wrong with the FX. Now before all of you say "GTR ALLL THE WAY" Of course the GTR is the better out of the bunch but please consider price as well. I am leaning towards the GTR but tge maintenence can get complicated and pricey to do. The M4 is way faster and an overall better drivers car than the RS5 but the Audi has a great engine and just sounds amazing. Tge RS5 is still a cery fast and good handling car. And of course Godzilla, is faster than all three but which would you go with? German performance, German soul, or Japanese Samurai? (BTW i have driven all three) Just drove the M4 today.

Did you find the GTR enjoyable enough to drive? That is the only thing that concerns me is that it's not really a drivers car. You pretty much just say go and pick a direction and all the computers decide what happens after that. They are great cars, and a lot of fun, but it seems like people get bored of them since there's a disconnect. I'm not really a fan of the newer BMW's since they went to electronic steering. I think I'd go with the RS5 if it was me, in Suzuka Gray. I've seen a couple RS7's in that color and love it the way it shifts from gray to white. I've always liked Audis. With that said, if I had some other fun car with a standard then I'd get the GTR just for the balls to the wall factor.
 
2 ways to go on this one. If this car is infact for you and only for you, take the GTR! Why? because the M4 will eventually tire you out plus if you go onto the track you will regret not getting a GtR. When i see and M4 on the street i go like wow thats beautiful, but from a year now its just going to be another BMW. The GTR in other words has always caught my eye since 09, and it never looked old or anything. I would conpare the GTR not with a bmw but with porsche 911 turbo s or gT3. If you want a real word race hearted car its either GtR or 911turbos/gt3. Forget the audi and bmw. Gtr all the way
 
I always told myself that I'd probably not own a 911 or a Ferrari in my lifetime but the GT-R is attainable. It is one of the few cars that goes neck to neck with the top 5 super car performance wise that cost a quarter or less that its contemporaries. Hey, it is the only car of the group that has a functional 2nd row seating though cramped as they are but it's there. To me, that's a plus. You can enjoy the car with friends and family.

The M4 and the Audis are surely nice and powerful but there's something about the GT-R that tells me I will not tire loving the car if I'd own one - someday, I hope ;-)

Like Dracula said the bummer will not be THAT attractive in a year or so. The audi is also nice but there are too many around (as most people can't tell an S5 from RS5 anyways). The GTR will always have a presence on the road since there Re not too many around and most people know what it is. Another choice is the 911. If this was my debate id choose a 997 TTS

Yes I did. Everyone thinks there is a disconnect and video game like experience with the R35. But you have to drive one to know for sure. It is such a great car and I totally disagree with the "computerized car" theory. You still get lots of feedback and you know exactly where you are going. IMO it is a better drivers car than the 991 or the M4. The car is so planted and out of any corner you get instant acceleration. the throttle is like a red dangerous button for a weapon. It propels you to the seat so hard and you cannot turn your head when accelerating hard. Its hard to explain but youll understand when you drive one. And just out of curiosity have you driven one? I'm pretty sure youve just been brainwashed by Lambo and Euro car fans. Just drive one and it'll be an amazing experience.


Yes the BMW will tire me out for sure but the RS5 is something special. The R8 is also a consideration. i saw a low mile used V10 for 110k. But I'm not so sure I really like the R8. But I havent driven one so I cant judge. The 991 is also another great car however owning a Cayman and having a 911 Carrera to rent in the past, I figured out that its not for me! The sound is alright and the cornering is great but you really have to drive the car hard to find the glory of it. And the car feels nimble but also sluggish. It doesnt pull as hard as the M4 or r35.

agreed! The Gtr has always caught ny eye and broke my neck since the first Fast and Furious. When i saw that movie the R34 was my dream. But on the other hand I dont want to regret buying a GTR. It sure made a great first impression but I dont know if it'll put a smile on my face everyday i step in it. But it will make me happier than the M4 for sure. Oh and the M4 sound like crap.

Yeah. No one even knows the difference between an A4 or an A5. Still love the Rs5 even though it doesnt turn many heads. But not into the Porsche game. The Turbo S if faster than the GTR in the straight line but not so much in the corners. I want a car that does very well in corners with ease. Straight line acceleration needs to be just enough to pass a Ferrari 458 or a Lambo Lp570 :) I think so far the GTR is the way most would go.

It all depends on what you plan to use the car for. If you plan to go to the track, GTR all the way. But if it's just a weekend cruiser, an M4 or RS5 would probably be better. A friend of mine just sold his '11 GTR last year. It had 1100 miles on it because he never drove it. He bought it on impulse when he was getting service done at a Benz dealership. Someone had traded it in a few months after buying it because they didn't like to drive it. He bought it on the spot because he'd always wanted one. He owned it for almost 3 years and drove it less than 1000 miles. Granted he has several other cars, but he said it was just too uncomfortable to drive far and if there's no track around, it's very hard to get near the car's limits without being dangerous.

Good news is that GTR's hold their value relatively well. Looks wise, the Audi is the classiest and the BMW looks the most aggressive. The GTR doesn't really have much in the way of looks. Anyone who isn't into cars thinks it's a regular Nissan coupe.
 
I agree with what shadow said. I'm a huge huge fan of the GTR. My friend bought a blue one in 2012 and sold it this past November. He loved the car and was bummed to get rid of it but he said maintenance was killing him and he is pretty well off. He drove it every day as well and said it was super fun but the ride was harsh and uncomfortable.
 
i drove 2 Gtrs one 09 and one 13 and it didnt feel so harsh, i actually loved the sporty feel. Compared to my m3 in the roughest edc setting its not bad, its pretty tolerable.

Yes I agree that the GTR isnt the best looking, but it sure does look mean and supercarish. Is there a reason he didnt drive the GTR a lot? Is it too harsh for him?

Yea the maintence is a pain in the ass but I've put all that into consideration. A dealer in Fontana does great deals on maintence and I go down there often for other things. And since I wont be dailying the car, tge maintence wont be too high. the only really expensive services are the transmission/diff fluid change. They are usually 2-3k services which come in at 20k which I obviously wont have to do often. Fontana charges 1-1.5k for both of these services and an oil change. No wonder this is the highest rated nissan dealer in California. I dont think the ride is too harsh. Driving it on the 101 and 5 wasnt as bad as the magazines/other reviews said. They say "harshest ride ever" and "feel every pebble on the road." Maybe the writers drive a Rolls Royce?

I agree. It isnt too bad. I'd say its just a couple levels harsher than the FX. Except the FX is just bouncy not stiff.
