My lights are kind of dull on the sides and look sort of matte. like semi gloss. how can i get them shiny without clear. can i just polish them? or do i have to wet sand too? i put about 2 1/2 coats on each light.875cb14047baa5e0f2ade784e8aa035f.jpg

giving it a polish would definitely help give it more shine, but wait for the paint to cure some more before doing so. maybe a week at least to be safe

Probably will need to wet sand a little bit, then polish. But definitely wait for the paint to cure. Since the weather is still cold, it will take a little longer. This is pretty normal, if any body shop painted the lights, they sand and polish. It's paint, it's not going to be perfect without finish work.

the paint looks kind of "spotted" after it fully dried in a way. does that mean the paint is too thin? i did like 2 coats. if i wet sand with 2000 grit is there a chance of the paint just coming off right away?

I guess there is a chance but I've never had that problem. If you are really worried about it you could do another coat?

When you wet sand, you'll see the surface texture change and the goal is to get a consistent finish on the entire surface - but it will be much more matte after 2000 grit. Then when you polish they will shine right up. No harm in starting with polish - if it's enough then there is no reason to wet sand so I say start with a compound and see what it looks like.

ok it turns out that the light was off balance a bit and the left side is darker than the right by a bit. should i just add a light coat on the right? do i have to wetsand before i paint another coat? or instead of another coat can i just wetsand the other side with a lower grit like 1000 to take some paint off? and if you look close in to the paint i got a piece of dust that bothers me. will sanding take it off? thanks.

Be careful with 1000, you may cut through the paint. And wet sanding will take the dust out. That's partly why body shops wet sand and then polish cars after painting. It will remove any dust/contaminates in the paint as well as clean it up.
