Bubbling dash making me hate this car.

I recently got my 2005 fx35 with the bubbling dash . I didn't want to buy the car at first . I called Infiniti and they told me about the recall and they would change it for free. so I went ahead and purchased it . when I got to infiniti they told me they made a mistake and the service adviser thought it was a 2008 not 2005 . So now I am stuck with it. I bought a dash pat to cover it and its nice but just looks out of place. Any one find a way to fix this issue or cover it up with something better than a dash pad?

Not sure what you are expecting to hear about a cover - the dash pad is the cheapest option out there, followed by getting your dash re-upholstered, followed by just paying for a new dash.

I've had two first gen FXs and both needed a new dash. Just do it an be happy with your car or sell it!

I cant include a url since I am new here . but I saw this company that makes alcantara material that has double side glue on the back so I basically clean the dash lay it out and cut out all the holes for vents and speakers . I wanted to see if someone tried that . because this will not have me needing to remove the dash . I can just remove air vents and navigation bezel.

I would be very hesitant about something like that. How will you get it to conform over corners and such? Typically when you look at a suede or Alcantara wrapped dash, it's stitched. There is a reason for that stitching, it's because the material won't conform without using multiple pieces. Do a search for member payyourtoll, he swapped his dash himself.

I'd say you go back to the dealer to have the issue fixed. You went ahead and purchased the vehicle because they said they will fix it free of charge and now they will not honor it because it was their fault that they thought it was 2008 and not a 2005. Either they take the vehicle back and give you full refund or have them honor what they told you in the beginning. This is not right what they did.

If it was bought from the dealer then he'd have every right to a dash repair, no questions. Sounds like it was bought from another party thought to me. I could be wrong.

I'd be hesitant only because there's no way that could look professional? Even if this was a material that could conform to the curves, there is no edge finishing. How do you handle the edges of every cut-out, including the finishing edges? If it is super cheap then maybe it's worth a try?

I'm in the same situation as you are with my second FX, except I knew I had the problem and thought I would pay to get it fixed myself. Plenty of upholstery shops could cover the dash and make it look not only brand new but custom. I am also using a cover until I make a permanent fix but I'm planning on calling a dealership just to see what a brand new dash would cost me. I might even get installation quoted somewhere else. I also plan to get a quote from an upholstery shop. If the two are in the same ballpark, some real leather might be in my future- which I think would be awesome. Too much of the interior feels cheap to me as the first generation ages.

I didn't buy it form the dealer if I did I wouldn't take the car before it was done . As for the material it can conform with heat and I would have to take out all the speakers and vent covers to tuck the material edge under then put everything on top . If taking out the dash was easy I would have of taken it out and upholstered it but I don't have a garage or a place to do the work . I might just go to a custom shop and see how much they are going to charge . I cant upload the link but if you guys go on ebay the item number is 191481799666 . what do you guys think?

Just looked at the link, that material isn't going to conform enough. You'd have folds/wrinkles around the more complex curves. It would do a headliner since those are gradual curves and that's what they picture. I've had my headliner and pillars wrapped in synthetic suede, and the material conforms fine. But the guy who does my interiors has told me that dashes are much harder to do because of all the stitching. It's almost like making a seat, they have to cut patterns and stitch it all together. It's not as simple as stretching some fabric over it.

That material isn't much different than buying synthetic suede fabric from a fabric store and then using 3M spray adhesive.
