Hey everyone, I have a power steering problem. My wife was driving on the freeway and said (what she describes as a loud noise) something popped or screeched......or who knows?....but now the power steering isn't working. Belts are in tact and spinning. And there is fluid so now I'm stuck. I don't know where to begin. I'm guessing pump is out. Anyone else have this problem? Is it easy? How much time? Pump cost? Any info would help and be greatly appreciated.
Searched forum seen no answers. Seen that it was only asked once and the answer was directing toward going to the dealership...no thanks.

i did this repair myself and cost me only 100 dollars. I would start looking for a used pump from a nissan junk yard. This is what i did. The rplacement is very easy and direct. All you need to do is take the belt off, move the pulley around for hidden bolts, unbolt them then ubolt the main lines that go to reservoir and rack right on top of the pump and thats it. It comes out easily and goes in easily. It looks complicated when you see it at first but thats not true its actually quite easy, just like replacing brakes

Ok thanks, that's some reassuring comfort. I'll start looking around tomorrow for a replacement and prices. I'll also look around the engine more to get a little more visually familiar with what I'll need to be doing.
