Cabin Lights / side marker lights / license plate lights

Hey guys so I have a strange one. Noticed that only one side of my cabin light would work wen I open the door coupled with the left side marker lights not working.


So I tried the battery pole reset for the BCM. Now the rights side light is working when I open the door and only the front right side light.


Now here is the thing. If I open the door and switch the cabin lights to off then back to odor both work. Then close the door and open it a couple times they both work. Lock the car and come back then only the right works. Also during testing I noticed that sometimes the left side would flicker off and on when I open the door.


As it is now on every try the right side works and for the side markers only the front driver works. Also during this testing I noticed at one occasion only the right rear tail license plate worked. But now both are working.




Does this mean the BCM needs to be changed or I am missing something ?

Hey Guys little update so. If I switch the light to the off and back on the left side light will come on. Then close the door and start both lights come off. Now if I exit the car and lock and then re-open only the right side will come back on.
 
Hey Guys , so if I open the door and one the left side cabin light is on and I switch to off then door then both lights come on. At the back now the left side license light is off.


Any ideas anyone ?

Okay I am a little confused by what you are describing so I will explain how it is supposed to work and you can tell us if thats how your car is working:

When you open your front doors your two map lights should light up as well as the center dome light (provided it is in the "door" setting). This happens regardless of which door is opened.

When you open either of your rear doors, the Dome light will turn on (again provided it is in the "door" setting), as well as the corresponding light above each door (again provided the switch is in the right position).

So only one side of the cabin lights above your rear doors will come on, unless you have both rear doors open.

You say something about your rear license plate lights, if the switches in your interior lights are interfering with your license plate lights, you are on your own. At that point you have a grounding problem, or electrical gremlins, you could tear apart your entire car and just end up wasting your time.

I have the tech package so no center dome light. When i open my driver side door only the only the left side of the map light will come one with the switch in the door mode. If at that very moment I move the switch to off and then back to door both lights come on.

The key difference here is that when I open the driver side door only the left side of the map light will come on. If at that very momenent i move the switcch from door to off and back to door both lights come on.

Lets forget about license plate light for now.
 
Like meme said, it sounds like you have some sort of electrical interference, wire short or pinch, or a "gremlin". If nothing was changed wether by you or a previous owner, it is one of those things that wether will take you to remove the dome/map light housing check for any loose wires connections or get someone with a better knowledge and understanding of how it all works and just trace it down.

It should not do what it does in your FX.

I'd start with that dome light first ... Mine had an issue when it would shut off on one side. Turned out to be a loose bulb, before I switched it all to LEDs.

Thanks guys I will continue to trouble shoot. Today both lights work and only one side of the license plate. I will not bring the side marker lights just yet that will be last but only one works (driver side).

Wonder if this could just be ground issue on the BCM. Am I correct to think that the BCM would control these lights ?
 
So I tightened the alternator belt saw squeaking and now i have consistent cabin lights working correctly and one side of the license plate. Does this mean anything ?
