Hi guys. Long time reader on the forum but new today. Finally got around to registering because iv got a problem I need your advice on.

I recently purchased a used fx35 here in Abu Dhabi. It has 97k KM on the odometer in good condition with all services done on time and at Infinti. Now recently I noticed a strange noise that occurs when I drive above 110kmh. The noise is a rhythmic light tap sound coming from the passengers side and what feels like the front bonnet. Driving wheels and all else seem fine. At first I thought was coming from the engine but sound is absent when idle and driving below the 110kmh speed. It only appears with wind and at high speeds. I thought it may have been the mirror on that side but not sure.

Has anyone else experienced this. Any advice as to what it may be?!

Do you feel any shake in the steering wheel or other vibrations? Does the sound increase with speed? Or is it constant over 110kmh?

Thanks for the reply. Nope. Doesn't feel like any shake or strain whatsoever on the steering wheel. No vibrations felt anywhere else. Noise does not increase with speed just appears around 100-110kmh and stays until speed falls below that.

Could potentially be the side mirror shaking, you can take of the inside cap and try tightening the bolts. Otherwise if you're hearing it up towards the front could be a slight gap in the hood catching air?

Belly pan loose?

Ok so this morning I rolled the side mirrors in and noise was still there. Interestingly, when i opened the passenger side window slightly to see if I could hear the noise more... It had gone. I'm assuming now its got something to do with air flow at high speeds or the rubber seals across the doors. Going to try again later to confirm this. David Carson - how do I know if its the loose belly pan?

You can go under there and see if any bolts are loose or if the plastic pan itself is loose. Should be an easy inspection, it starts right under the front bumper. May want to jack the car up or put it on ramps since the rear half is separate and you can't really check unless you're under the car.

I had a simular issue which turned out to be a seized brake caliper. From my understanding you have alot of dust storms out there. My FX made a sound when i was over 50 MPH. It seemed to be wheel related since the sounds was faster with speed. I thought it was a wheel out of balance at first but after having that taken care of it was still there.

Interesting development. Tried driving at speed with the Windows side mirrors folded in. Noise still there. However I drove to 110 kmph and then opened the passenger window to see if I could hear. Guess what. No noise what so ever. Made me wonder if its related to air noise coming into or in from a gap.

Thoughts?!

Does this noise change or go away when you change your AC from outside air to cabin? Could it be the little trap door that does that is loose?
