In the process of picking up the glossifier at advanced.

Either of these correct?

One on left is coded "high Perf clear" and other is "wheel black"

Not sure if you know this or not, but this is a regular Clear Coat Paint, not the Plasti-Dip Glossifier:wink:

The Plasitdip glossifier literally is called "Plastidip Glossifier" it's not a dupli-color product. It's Performix Plastidip. with a clear cap. The pic you posted is clear coat spray paint. I'm not sure if it will work with the plastid dip or if it will peel properly when the time comes.

About the taillights. I also didn't want mine too dark, and just wanted a darker red.
I've seen some taillights that used the Plastidip smoke and I didn't like the finish. Too matte and doesn't look "clean" to me.... I used VHt Nightshade.

(nightshade + wetsanding + clear coat + wet sanding + polish)
came out like this after 3ish coats of nightshade (LIGHT misting coats, not heavy stuff)

wetsanded

polished up.

after clear coat and another wetsand/polish. Final result.

I actually wanted them a little lighter than this. IN low-light they look wayy darker but the tail lights/brake lights shine through it nearly the same as non-painted OEM. barely any difference. Still can see reverse lights (LED) perfectly too.
taillights:

plus, the reflectors still work just fine

enough photo whoring for now, lol. FYI the rear emblem was plastidipped via can.

Those look so clean, great job on the tails, there is nothing more annoying than those matte plasti dipped lights that are too dark and look like cheap crap.

Those look awesome! Maybe I'm missing something but I have a well known body-shop that does a lot of side work on luxury end cars and I'm getting quoted $250. They are removing all the lights and tinting the inside of the light.

Does this seem right or high?

To tint the inside of the light that would mean they'd have to open them up, bake the fronts and cut the rears open, or am I missing something. Plus tinting the reds from inside (if at all doable) won't cover the read on the outside, it will just make them dark.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong ...

PAINTING THE "INSIDE" AKA HOUSING OF THE TAILLIGHT:
Bodyshops have done the "inside tint" before (180 customs for example) It does not darken the color of the lens, it darkens the plastic parts of the housing that are chrome under the lens. (much light how people paint the front headlight housings) This reflects less lights around and creates a darker taillight overall without changing the light output at ll, giving the illusion that the tails are tinted when they are not.
yes, you need to cut open the rears. vs baking open the fronts. They then plastic weld/ Expoxy them closed.

G37 guys were doing this. 180 customs called it the "midnight taillights" & they were charging $500+ for G37 tails

example on G's
first guy to do it on his G35 sedan

I personally love the look but wasn't feeling the $500+ price tag and the fact they haven't done it on a 2nd gen FX before (I asked when I was doing my FX tails)
So, a couple cans of VHT, sandpaper, and clear coat cost a bunch less and some DIY feels nice.

I agree that looks amazing. When's a road trip to Chicago coming? ;)) [emoji108][emoji108]

See that looks awesome as well. I'm going to go back and talk to the shop because they're doing my body repair. Get the exact process of what they're going to do. May do the DIY.

If I do go the DIY, can someone recommend the exact products? That way if I go that route I can place my order.

Like I said, VHT Nightshade is the tint used. Then we used a spray clear coat, I think just a simple Duplicolor clear coat will work fine.

I've always just had a shop spray it, tends to come out a bit cleaner than VHT since they're using spray guns and not cans. But if you really, really take your time, you can make VHT look good. I see too many VHT jobs that look uneven or runny or they didn't clear it so it looks matte. But jbaker's looks pretty good.

Jordan yours came out exactly like 180 customs, if not better. But I do like how those tails look on that 1gen G!! Whatever the method is, it gotta be done right, shiny and all, none of that matte crap!

Same. turbo cad did my Fx35 tails and they came out awesome. this time, however, I was at school in Buffalo so not easy access to his shop. Took matters into my own hands. they aren't perfect, but they are pretty damn good

They have a similar color tone but the process and output differs. I dislike matte tails too, unless the car is matte and nothing is shiny on it lol

Thanks for all the input guys. Probably just going to have them do it and try to work a better deal if I get the chrome/wheels painted while it's there.

Last question, should I run the chrome in a high gloss back or obsidian black. Or is it the same thing haha.
