Hello guys,

I am thinking about getting coilovers soon and i just have some questions before I do so.

I am currently running a set of 22x9.5 on my 2007 fx35.

if I install the coilovers will the tires rub the fender?

Can anyone post pictures of their car with 22'' wheels and with their coilovers?

And what brand of coilovers should I get?

I know there is a thread about coilovers but I don't want to jack his thread

Anything information will help.

Thank you

Frank

use the search function too ull see much greater info..
1st you need to let us know your wheel offset
As for coilovers: BC Racing, Megan and Kido. Stick with BC Racing imho.

You're on the border. It kinda depends on how low your going to take it. If you slam it, your going to have some work to do on the fenders regardless.

You're not going to rub unless you slam it and I don't mean by 2". I mean if you drop to max low front and back and start pulling collars to go lower. You'll clear the fenders just fine without work, but if you go low enough, the tires will rub in the wheel wells themselves. 9.5" and +35 will clear in front no problem and same with rear unless you're running a really wide tire.

Pic of my old 22"s, these rubbed a moderate amount even with a lot of fender work. Not too much on small bumps, but over big dips on the hwy or if I was turning up a driveway, it would make a horrible sound. And the fronts rubbed off the top clips that hold the plastic trim on. I wanted to go lower and got tired of the rubbing so I went with 20"s. These were 9" +5 in front and 10.5" +25 in rear. 265/295 tires.

BC coilovers with higher rate springs to help minimize rubbing. Rears were set on lowest setting and had a lock ring removed for another 1/4" drop or so. Fronts have another 1.5" of drop left. If you leave the OEM BC spring rate, you will be lower than this (the higher rate springs lifted my FX about .75" or so) but you would bottom out everywhere at that height.

New member of the forums but I have been doing a lot of my own mechanical work thanks to the DIY's here.

I am going to do BC coilovers very soon but am unsure what other suspension components I should replace at the same time and suggestions would be appreciated. Its a 2004 with 145k miles. I have had it about 4 years and haven't done anything to the suspension but the previous owner had put Eibach springs on but I dont think they did anything else. Two of those springs are now broken near the top and I figure at 145k miles the struts are probably passed due also so I will do the the coilovers. So do I need to also do control arms? tie rod ends?

Do an inspection first, then replace. Most likely you will find front sway bar end links worn out, tie rod bushings cracked, wheel bearings worn, control arm ball joint worn and or motor mounts busted..

how do you deterine that these things are busted?

Thanks for the help Dracula. I have already done the rear wheel bearings and haven't noticed any issue with the fronts. With the car on jack stands I can feel play in all 4 wheels when gripped at 3 and 9, but none at 12 and 6. I tried to figure out where it was coming from but didnt have much luck. Im thinking for the front I will go ahead and do sway bar links and tie rod ends since those are both pretty cheap anyway. Then if there is still play do the control arms. For the rear does the play have to be in the control arms? Is it more likely to be the uppers or lowers?

Also, can I replace just the ball joints or do I have to buy all new control arms?

Thanks

on all 4 wheels? u shouldnt feel play in the rears at all at 3 and 9 clock position. For the fronts you might feel a little movement but thats usually normal. Also beware of just replacing random parts. Replace what needs to be replaced e.g. if u feel play at the front wheels at 3 and 9 position it might not be the outter tie rods it can be the inner ones too. So have a buddy play with the wheel and you watch closely where the play is..
To my knowledge its a one piece pressed link. When my front right side control arm bushing was busted the dealer replaced the whole arm.. Also you will need an alignment done after touching these parts.

yeah there is definite play in the rears, but only at 3 and 9. All the parts are from amazon prime so returns be free and easy. Im doing the coilovers next week and just want to have whatever parts I may need on hand. Maybe it will be easier to find the source of the problem when I start getting things apart.

BC installation done. An impact wrench would have been useful and probably saved a lot of time but aside from that it was pretty straight forward. Set the damping right in the middle to start with and the ride is infinitely better than Eibach springs with stock struts. Very happy with purchase thus far. Couldn't have done this or many other jobs without this forum.

Good thread. Need to replace my suspension soon. Currently have 121k miles on stock struts and cut H&R Spring (since 70k). Too much banging and looseness in the suspension and steering responsiveness isn't that same as before (or I spend too much time on my motorcycle now!).

Curious, did you find any suspension parts that needed replacing or did the coilovers fix all the looseness?

I had the shop that I am getting tires at inspect the suspension before I did anything to recommend what I should replace and they said everything else was fine so I took their word for it. I did end up replacing sway bar links though because I couldn't get one of them off the old strut.
