Any recommendations on a hitch for an 08 FX 35. Also, anyone have any experience installing a hitch? Wiring harness? Is it a plug or is there splicing involved?

Thanks

I have installed a Curt hitch on an 03 FX35 last summer. It wasn't fun. Given the age of the car and rust, a couple bolts seized up real good and one was broken after a few attempts. End up removing the bumper cover and muffler in order to get at the broken bolt with a drill. The entire install took 6 hours. Didn't install wiring harness since it only for bike carrier. I'm pretty sure the wiring should simply be plug and play nowadays.

Lafx , u should use those small torch that they sell at harbor Freight, it helps a lot. I'm about to buy a used hitch for 60$ But I will deal with the same issue rust... :-/

You mean those butane can torch that you use to sweat copper plumbing pipe? If so I do have a few of those. I need to take a 10 years old hitch of my Sienna to repaints soon.

Don't you heat up the bolt then let it cool? I've never done this, but I would think that heating causes expansion therefore the fit is even tighter. The expansion would break the rust, but shouldn't you wait until it shrinks back down when it cools to remove?

ive installed the OEM hitch. took a while but worth it. The OEM wiring harness is plug and play. super easy to do.

Where can you get the OEM wiring harness?

Nop dont let it cool down, heat it a little bit like 10 sec and remove it !

Just saw this, if you use this method to remove any bolts, which is fine nothing wrong with it. But do not re-use those bolts replace them.

You will find that these bolts have torsional rigidity issues, especially if they were rusty to begin with.
