I cant find a dash removal DIY, is there one?

Not sure if a DIY exists. But that diagram is a map to get it done. It shows you where the bolts are as well as the clips. So it looks like you need to lower the steering column, pull the vents, navigation screen, lower console. Then remove the bolts they show, the ones behind the passenger airbag will probably be a bear (they are on most cars). I've never done the FX, but have pulled the dash on several other cars and it's the same procedure for the most part. Once you've pulled the vents and all the climate control stuff along with the steering column dropped, it's not too bad. I'd recommend removing your front seats because you'll be on your back to get some of the bolts/clips loose and it makes it much easier to wiggle the dash cover out.

Yeah, it's a tedious job. I would recommend getting a trim removal tool, much better than screwdriver wrapped in tape that some people use. The trim removal tool lets you get some more leverage for hidden clips and won't deform the trim when you pry. Also, I'd recommend getting some extensions and universal joints for your sockets. If the 2 bolts behind the airbag are anything like the ones I've had to remove, they can be very tricky. The climate control ducting can be in the way and sometimes the bolts are at funny angles.

Oh, and I would recommend pulling the negative cable. You'll be working right by the airbags and I know the chances of anything happening are slim to none, but you never know.

negative cable pulled, the right tools... check. I will try to take some photos for the forum's future reference, but you know how those intentions end up once you're elbows-deep in a job

thanks for the advice

Yeah, if possible definitely take some pics. I'd like to see if there are any major differences. I've toyed with the idea of pulling the dash to get it re-trimmed. I already had the upper part replaced under warranty, but I feel the material looks a little cheap so I've considered having the whole thing redone with suede and custom stitching.

But I also know what it's like to be elbow deep in a project and would rather set the whole car on fire than take a picture. So good luck.

I know this is old but...just pulled the dash and all crap behind it to replace heater core. What a MOFO job! A total bitch! The dash was simple compared to the steel support behind it and miles of wiring harness! Take plenty of pics and never hurts to tag/label both sides of the connectors because there are some places where the same connector type is REAL close to another one just like it.
