FX35 Wire Tuck

Okay guys, been putting it off and talking about it for months, but I really want to get underway with atleast the preliminary portions of the wire tuck in the engine bay.

I have read countless DIY's and threads on the topic on the G35 and 350z boards. I have an understanding of the premise, but in practice this is pretty nerve wracking as I have never done anything this related to engine electrical.

I want to start at the easiest point possible. which would be these two looms:

(Sorry for stealing your pic GTO, I couldn't find a pic in my library that showed the two looms better, and I am far too lazy to go all the way out to my car).

The idea with these two looms (which are for both the fog lights and headlights), is to run them through the fenders.

Now having looked I am going to start with the driver side loom tomorrow and experiment a bit (this side has better access). Looking at it quickly I do not see an easy way of doing it so it sounds like I am going to have to take my fender off.

So questions to those who might have a clue:

-What other pieces do i have to take off to get the fender off, just the wheel well liner and the front bumper?
-is there some easy hole I can route the wires through from the brake fluid cover area into the fender cause I pulled that cover and I didn't see a convenient slot to do this...

Anyways will give an attempt tomorrow and see what happens.

Hellavalotta wires

Shadow191 posted couple pictures of wire tuck on here. Can't find them. I believe they're bury in the "What did you do to your FX today" thread.

Found it.

Thanks for that Andy, glad to see someone else has actually done it on an FX. M worst fear is that I will have it all apart and need to lengthen the wires. I really do not want to have to do that.

Luckily the HID kit for my fogs gave me tons of slack for those lines so I think I should be fine.

If I run into trouble I hope Shadow can give me some guidance but I think that drivers side loom is pretty easy.

Hoping a buddy of mine is going to be in town later this month so we can tackle the main harness loom.

Driver's side is easiest one and still annoying. You do not have to remove the fender, but you will have to pull the fender liner down for access. FX is slightly different from the G's and Z's. They often don't have to extend the wires, but on the FX, it's like 6" too short after using every trick to get slack (I removed every clip and separated every wire to get more slack). So you will have to extend the wires which is honestly a PITA and the most irritating part. You also have to extend the grounds since one bundle grounds right on the shock tower. I moved that to under the fender so the wires don't show. I used the hole under the brake MC to run the wires through. I did have to enlarge it slightly because there was no way to get all the wires through even after breaking the bundle up and feeding the plugs through individually. Material is very soft there, so only took about 30 seconds.

Thanks for the input, I just got done trying every way from sunday, you are 100% right I do not see away without extending like half the wires.

I gave up and just put them back until I have more time and can extend the bulk of wires i need to extend (its 1AM here and I was not about to doing it now).

Have you tucked any other looms shadow?

Can you upload a couple more shots of your engine bay. Might give me some motivation to actually do this...

I'll try to take some more pics, don't really have that many of the wire tuck specifically. I haven't gotten around to tucking any other looms. Basically, thought the driver's side would take 90 minutes, ended up taking 4 hours so I got annoyed. Then a bunch of other projects came up - Akebono, VB, new BC springs, etc. along with some BMW projects. Then it got cold. I'll probably tuck the passenger side in the next couple of months. It's supposed to be a few more wires than driver's side, so I need more time. I switched jobs so no more company car so I can't spread the job out over a few days like before.

Any updates on this guys.....issues....problems......my car is apart and want to look into this as well. Don't want to do it when it's all back together.

If the main one is already done, then you have nothing to worry about. The headlight ones are very easy, just tedious. Just unplug everything and then pull the brake fluid cover off. Break apart the looms holding the wires together then lower the wheel well liner. The most annoying part for me was extending the wires and running them one by one through the hole under the fluid reservoir. If you extend the wires one at a time, you can't really mess it up.

The passenger side will be similar, I think there is one extra loom there. Since your engine is already apart or out, I'd recommend welding the holes shut after you tuck the wires. I'm referring to the ones under the covers that the looms normally come out of. Cleaner look and if your car is down for an extended time, not much extra work.

Yeah thats why i want to digg into this right now. Was wondering if there was a similar hole in the wheel well to run the loom trough as on the driver side. Welding those holes means i have to repaint some parts as well.....don't know if i have that much time left honestly. The tuk can be done anywhere but for paint i have to bring to car ( without engine) to the painter and would be another unplanned stop i have to go through.....but your right......would deff be cleaner.

What about that big ground wire wich connects to the engine.......that runs through that hole as well and i believe we cannot delete thought one so easy.

Please do update us. My main harness was done, and part of my driver side headlight loom (yes you read that correctly I ran out of time and only managed to do the actual headlights so the fog light was put back. lol)

I will go back and complete it sooner rather than later but for now the car and myself are far too busy to start pulling stuff apart. When I have the opportunity to ground the vehicle for a few days while I will have some time to work on it I will try to tackle this again.

There is a series of other work that a local speed shop is taking care of for me, so it may very well come down to what I plan to do myself and what I plan to farm out to them.

Good luck.

EDIT: Oh and if I remember correctly the passenger side harness is not difficult at all from what it looked like, but it is more wires. From the factory the wire for the hood sensor as well as the E-Fan's are located within those looms. Adds a little extra work, but nothing extra really in terms of difficulty.

I also have a few pictures of when I took out my battery so I can upload those later for you so you can see where I planned to route the wires.
