Hi Everyone,

Just picked up a used 2004 FX45 the other day. I just noticed the splash shield under the engine is missing.

I found one on ebay for $70. I'm assuming I should go ahead and buy it and throw it on there? Anyone know how many bolts there should be? I'll likely have to buy bolts as well, anyone know the correct size bolts to get?

Thanks Everyone.

I got back up under the car and found what I believe were a couple of the rear bolts. I put a 10 mm socket on them and it fit, and of course both bolts broke off when trying to remove them. So now I've got to figure out a way to get the rest of the bolt out.

Welcome to the scene.
The cheap eBay ones are poor quality. I have been planning to write a formal product review and may get to do so in the next week or so.

Welcome to :iS2: Yeah, most of my bolts are all seized and broke off. Just have to be creative on get the bell pan bolt back on.

Just go to Home Depot, Lowes, or Menards and find some clip nuts and match up the bolts from there.

I wonder what alternatives I have to mounting the splash shield if I have to drill out these old screws. It doesn't appear I can easily get to the other side on the holes toward the rear of the shield.

Dang, already placed my order. Oh well, it's got to be better than nothing down there. Any idea what the thread size is on the bolts?

It will still work to keep a lot of snow and junk out of there. Just not as good as OEM part and won't last as long. But its 1/2 the price so use it for all it's worth.

The two that broke off, they're the one toward the back on the edge of the belly pan and they're next to two plastic push pin? If so, you will have to use a tap to make the thread once you drill them out. I believe the nut is weld onto the cross member.

I'll need to check again as I don't remember exactly which ones they were back there. They were close to the middle if I remember right. It's dark out there and I could barely see. :)

I'll likely head to harbor freight and grab the 12 piece screw extractor set they have. There appears to be some small enough bits in there which might work.

If they're toward the center then I'm pretty sure they're the one described. Yeah, screw extractor should work on them. You will have to jack the car up pretty high to get a drill into it though. Be safe.

If I remember correctly there are about eight 10mm bolts in there and two plastic clips. If you broke a couple provided they're not next to each other you'd still be able to secure it.

I would recommend to buy the bolts from a Nissan dealership. They share lots of hardware with Infiniti. IMO just for peace of mind the replacement bolt are not one of those brittle poor quality ones.

Finally got around to putting the splash shield on today. I can't get out the two screws in the middle which were broken off. I drilled into them and used an extractor and those things are just stuck. It appears the other pins/bolt will hold it up though.

Is there supposed to be a second splash shield further back towards the steering?

I think it's #14 in the splash shield pics on infinitipartsusa . I guess I should grab that one too? Mine is no where to be found. I wish I could find it cheaper somewhere.
