Leather/vinyl repair kit results on the FX seats?

Hi everyone. Did anyone experience good results from using a vinyl/leather tear repair kit on a ripped FX seat? I am considering using one to do a quick repair so I can trade in my FX. I do not want a kit that will re-rip the moment someone put their butt on it. I am trying to get the most money I can for a trade. I may already have to take a hit on the value due to a few small bubbles here and there on the top of the dash, hopefully they may go unnoticed if I shine the dash up:ninja: However, most dealerships probably are trained to look at the older FX dashes specifically for that problem.

As for the seat repair no idea. Why don't you take the car in to the dealership and get your dash repaired under warranty for free to get a few more extra dollars when you sell it.

Oh I tried to have the dealer repair the dash, however my FX is an 2004 model, which make it too old to be included in the 8 year dash replacement campaign :disapointed:
 
I bought one on Amazon for a small crack/rip in the side of my driver's seat. It worked pretty well, but mine had not ripped all the way through yet, it was just a really deep crack so the repair compound had something to bond to. If the seat was torn all the way through, I'm not sure how well it would hold. The black color matched decently well.

So you're trading in your car? What are you trying to get?

Probably a 2012 Volkswagen CC VR6 4motion, I was looking at different cars like an Audi A8 and noticed that I could have a nice AWD car for less that 10K if I can get a decent trade on my FX by stepping down to a Volkswagen. The CC looks and drive very well. I am still on the fence though because I want a newer FX50S, but no used ones have been listed yet around my area. I like my FX, but the small repairs are bugging me, and I have just gotten a better job which is farther from the house so I need a newer more dependable ride for the extra commute. My FX is basically 10 years old, and I am sure more things will need repairs soon. But, I am not in a rush to sell her yet. I am trying to fix the problems that I know will cut into my profit margin when I do pulled the trigger.

My 03 still doing great. What repair bill? I only have mod bill. :laugh: My guess is how good of a job the previous owner keep up the car. I know mine was babied. Thank you Ed. Seriously though, what other small repairs you got? Last I heard was some squeaky noise and it was fixed.

Well,considering that my car is 10 years old the repair list is nothing. I had to change the wheel bearings, seat frame due to forward/reverse motor dying, camshaft sensor, and oil type for a bit of oil consumption. But most cars have those problems or more with age,so they are not abnormal. My suspension needs to be replaced I know, and that's it besides cosmetic problems like the seat and dash, which bothers me a little. Maybe i got spoiled due to the Fx45 never having problems until recently. I glad to hear that your Fx45 is pretty trouble free even after 10 years. I just feel better having a car with a little less age, especially as a daily driver for a long commute. P.S. my repair bill is very low due to doing all the repairs myself, however my new job leaves me little time to wrench on the weekends without taking away my family time.

Ok, that is a fair list for a 10 years car. The dash will bug the hell out me for sure. But once it all done it should be good for another 100K miles. :wink:
I just hated car payments if I don't have to take one. Just saying. Everyone is difference.

Ditto about car payments. However, I am more worried about major engine problems down the road, which would cost me $$$$. I have a friend who is now considering buying a new car or repairing his 2002 BMW 5-series due to it smoking a lot, which may mean a head job. I like my FX, but I want to step up to something newer.

When? For free? The dealership told me a week ago that my FX build date put me outside the window for the free repair. However, they did offer me a reduction in repair costs. I would have to pay about $800.00 to have it done, but no free dash for me. Funny thing is that my build date was July 2004!!!!:at-wits-end:

About a year ago. But I don't think it matters. It's from the date of the recall I believe or something maybe someone else can answer this. But I think there bullshitting you to make money even though it's for free
 
Some dealerships are more accommodating than others.

As for the rip repair, I've had a 1/2" tear and I put some of that repair goo on it and it held for a little while. I've reapplied it a few times and even though it opens back up every once in a while, it does not grow. I have the brick interior and the patch glue I used is clear. If you get the color match stuff, I think it will help hide it pretty well (or well enough to help). How long the repair lasts depends on many factors.
If you have standard rubber cement around the house, you can give that a try. You should be able to rub it off if you don't like the look.
From what I've seen with trade ins, the dealer may not even take a close inspection, and just throw a low price.
