I have been noticing that my FX is making a low tire roaring sound over the last couple weeks. So, I ordered some Timken wheel bearing assemblies for the left and right side off Amazon. They arrived today, so this weekend I will be changing them out. I will post some pics of the job to help anyone who may need to do it in the future. Here are the wheel bearing I bought from Amazon. Part number HA590125. IMG_20131025_185400_163_zps10b0a1c8.jpg

Just from experience - they rear usually follow so just an FYI.

The rear.......when the go bad they moan. You can feel a vibration on the steering wheel and floor boards. As it progresses it becomes more apparent.

Unfortunatly they are not as easy to diagnose as the old type wheel bearings where you jack the car up and check for wiggle in the wheel. If you drive your fx allot you will or can tell the moan or growl it will start making, I'm getting ready to change 3 on mine as I now have 97k on the clock. I had one replaced via the dealer not too long ago, at that time the others via the tech seemed alright, again they are very difficult to diagnose as allot of times the tires will also become louder and louder with wear. As allot have stated on here the wheel bearings are good for about 65-70k miles so whether mine are needed or not I'm going to replace them as well as my belts, oil and such this coming weekend.

How do you know which wheel bearing is making the noise though? My G35 needs a new wheel bearing but I can't pinpoint which wheel is making the moaning noise

I have finished changing the left and right wheel bearing today. I must say that I had a rough time doing my left side, which is funny because only the right was bad. I had to rethread the wheel sensor bolt on the left, I broke a socket reducer, and the hub was so rusted that I had to bend back my dust shields and hammer the hub out with the MAX hammer. In comparison the right side went a lot smoother, maybe because the PB buster had more time to penetrate the rust while I worked on the left side. Hell, even the wheel sensor bolt came out easy on the right. I have a question about running without the dust shields. Is it ok not to put them back on? I warped one really bad while hammering out the rusted hub, and decided leave the dust shields on both sides off. I have read in a few different forums about owners who removed them without problems, but I am still a little on the fence about it. If it is really bad to go without them, then I may buy new ones and install them soon before the new hub rust to steering knuckle.

Here is some pics of my "fun" experience of changing wheel bearing hubs on a FX45.

Nice work! And I wouldn't sweat the dust shields, they really don't do much. On my previous car, I had to cut them off due to BBK kit. Ran that way for 7 years and never an issue. Lots of guys cut them off on other cars for BBK's, I think on the G35 you have to. I honestly don't remember if my '07 w/ updated brakes even had it. I was ready to cut it off for the Akebono install, but it wasn't there/necessary.

Thanks man. I did not think that the dust shields was that important, but I felt uncomfortable leaving them off. Thanks for the clarification. I still have to re-torque the bolts this weekend, because I was told that you should re-torque the bolts after about a week of driving. While I am doing that I will also use a better M6 tap/re-threader that I ordered from Amazon to better rethread my wheel sensor bolt hole. The cheap one I used from Autozone wore down before I could make a deep enough hole that will fix an oem length bolt, so I am making due with a shorter m6 bolt. I believe the tap I bought from Autozone is a cheaper carbon-steel tap which is not up to the job of re-treading the heavier metal of the steering knuckle, however the one I ordered from Amazon is high speed steel so I should be good. The good news is that the FX rides like a brand new truck. Next comes the suspension.

your wheel shake is not from the wheel bearings. Especially if you only have sixty seven thousand miles on it. Need to tighten up the bolt on the steering rack. Turn it about one quarter turn, take a test drive, works. Good luck

.
Im at 67k. Im just gona change the fronts out for peace of mind and hoping to get rid of my wheel shake.

NOOOO!!! You said TRUCK!!

so does a bad bearing make a humming noise the faster you drive get louder? i ordered fronts and i'm going to do it in pairs. I'm just guessing that my bearings are shot.
