Replacing shocks and springs

He guys,

After some reading on the forum here regarding the suspension of the FX i also start thinking its time to replace them.
Now i was looking on ebay and found these:

I am now a bit doubt what to do, or just change them or also install a set of H&R sport lowering springs.
They will lower the car just over an inch, but anybody here who has some experience with this setup?
What does it change for drivability?

Just wondering what is the best option, if it just lowers the car without any improvement for driving i will stay with the OEM springs.

Any thoughts?
 
KYB alone will not lower your ride. KYB are exactly as stocks. The H&R will lower your ride. The KYB and H&R combo will improve handling and ride quality over stock. I had the KYB struts and shocks with H&R springs before coilovers. The KYB and H&R combo will lower your ride a little over an inch. The KYB and H&R setup will runs you about $600. If you can wait, coilovers is your best options. Coilovers will be around $900.

Here in the Netherlands is a company who sells coilovers for Infiniti from BC Racing.

They will quote on request but as far as i remember i've seen a price around 900 Euro (1000-1100 US Dollar)
Do you have/know this brand?
Anyway, Kyb in combination with H&R springs incl. shipping from the states will cost me just as much (if not more) so that might be a option as well.

But how i understand you recommend a coilover setup over OEM style/lowered?
Better drivability?
 
Coilovers you can adjust, so you can set it up any number of variations depending on your preferences. H&R's are great, but I wish I had just gone straight to coilovers in the first place.

You can also go way lower with coilovers.
 
I am not really looking to lower the car much.
To increase the car handling i would lower it a bit but thats about it.
For me most important is to make sure the car handles good in corners etc.

But like you said, maybe better to go straight in the 1st place and get some coil overs.
In the end, pay the same price for better quality and adjustability as OEM.
 
I guess i will wait and safe some to get a set of coil overs.
To me it's a fair price actually for a set of this kind of car.
Installation i will do myself, but after the car needs a alignment i think?
I read somewhere there is not much adjustable so i guess you cant go really wrong there??
 
Coilovers is the best options. You can adjust the ride height, camber, and dampening. That's not enough adjustments?
You don't have to slam it to enjoy the added handling and ride quality. You do need an alignment after the installation.

Thats more then enough adjustments ;-)
Don't think i am treating my FX rough or something, i just like the car to feel less beefy as it does have a roll and a heavy ass.
But that must be improved then by a coil over kit.

Trust me you will love the coilovers as long as you're not looking for a floating boat ride quality like one of the member from oversea. He said he like the way the stock suspension rides and he read all above the improvement off aftermarket performance springs. He installed some H&R (I believe) and complaint that the ride was worst then stock. :smile (2):
To said the least, the ride quality that he was looking for was just the direct opposite of most of us was after on this forum.

Im looking for a tight ride, that the suspension becomes more stiff i know.
The OEM suspension makes the car feel like a beefy monster so if this BC coilovers reduce the tilt when making a corner i am happy! ;-)
 
If you want KIDO coilovers that Andy has, I can get you into contact with them directly and they will ship you a set for cheaper than BC.
 
There is a company in holland selling the BC coil overs.
Saves me on shipping costs, and as from what i understand they are good also quality wise.

Meaning, you feel as if you had root planted deep into the ground give you a secure and tight feeling/handling. Its a good thing :wink:

Hehe, I do know enlish in write and speech but still learning all phrases :smile (2):
Anyway, thanks guys for your help making up my mind.
I'll wait with it for a while anyway as the shocks are not broken etc and i will have a lot of other things i still need to do on the car.

-Brake line replacement (left front hard pipe is damaged)
-Install new tie rods, 1 inner en both outer. (inner rod bend and preventive change out outer rods and get a alignment done)
-get new rocker covers as the seals around the spark plug holes leak. ( maybe also install a plenum spacer while i am at it)
 
Indeed....priority list so to say.
Also i would like to get to bottom of the car in a protective coating (tectyl) to prevent future rust and corrosion.

But when this is done it's going to be a pain in the @ss because everything is coverd with it and you damage the coating when removing bolts and parts.

Oh and i almost forgot...i also need a new exhaust :bulgy-eyes:
