Manual Shift Mode

Just a question regarding the manual mode:

Can you use this for daily driving all the time or will this damage something? (i like to use it in underground parking garage to rev the engine) ;-)
Or should this only be used for towing purposes, hill driving etc?
 
It is a sport mode, it is supposed to get and take more abuse than the automatic, just make sure you do not exit the safe RPM range so often.

Ok, thx for the info.
Fact remains it pulls faster in automatic mode then when changing to manual anyway so for the traffic light sprints the best is to keep it in auto.
 
Yeah I wouldnt do it too much. I notice if you bring it to a stop from 2nd to 1st it makes the car slam or clunk sometimes. Especially if you do it over 5mph just doesnt sound good for the car lol.

Hahaha, I feel your pain with your brakes problems. Hoping that it is a crushed brake fluid line like Ataher had.

For me theres not a huge clunk but the car does have a jerk for me and is unsmooth. It was really bad before the tcm and ecu update but after its made it a little better but still doesn't feel right. Think downshifting to second and letting the car go down to first on its own is a a better option but still i feel a jerk. I never use manual shift unless its to accelerate.
 
Yeah thats normal. Every manumatic car will do it. My G35 does it too and my uncles GX460 lexus and my FX35. I just use manual mode for acceleration.

My suggestion for anyone is that if you want to use the tranny to slow the car down buy a real manual tranny equipped car.
 
Most of the times the gearbox puts it in 1st gear itself, by the time i want to put it to 1st gear i check and see its already changed by itself.

Also when speeding up, if you release the throttle a bit before you want to change gear you can feel it does something, like it pulling up in mechanical mode and when you release the throttle a bit it changes to hydraulic (torque converter) mode allowing the gear change to go more smooth.
When just changing gear without releasing the throttle it gives a bit of a shock.
 
So are you saying not to let go of the throttle? I usually never do. Theres not really any unsmooth-ness or jerking when im upshifting
 
If you release the throttle a bit before changing gear imo the torque comes off the drive train a bit and the gear change goes a bit smoother.
But like you said, normally the gear change goes quite smooth, sometimes it gives a small jerk but nothing i worry about.
95% of the time i drive full auto anyway.
 
Folks, after complaining to the dealership service managers and directly to Infiniti consumer affairs I can now breed a little easy after the long run-around.

I dropped off the FX on Tuesday and just got it back.

They replaced the shifter assembly (Transmission shifter control device mechanism, part #: transm-34901cg00a).

I can now easily slide the gear shifter over into manual mode with the tip of a finger. It was definitely fun driving in this mode, however this is something I will not be doing often, but sure glad I have the option to do it when needed.
