^^^ Good info. Illinois just changed their law about speeding about 2 years ago, anything 30 over the posted speed is suppose to result in automatic 1 year jail+fines and impounding of your vehichle. Right before this change happened I was pulled over in my SLP SS for 112 in a 55 on the tollway. A State Police patrolwomen really wanted to throw the book at me with Reckless, illegal lane change, following too closely and speeding. Somehow I gave her reasonable doubt by saying I was trying to make an exit ramp and someone would not let me in so I dropped the hammer to get in front of them. It's only half true but my playing the stupid appologetic man got me only 2 tickets and I was sent on my way. Got a good lawyer and on my court day, was one of the last people before the new law passed to recieve court suppervision. My lawyer said they are really trying to make examples of speeders and in the future it would be easier to get me off on a DUI under the posted speed limit rather than excessive speeding sober. Crazy right? Anyhow I have heard though from within the red and blue some officers now will not go the extra mile and tow/arrest you on spot unless you are being extremely reckless or a complete arss. Regardless I am no saint but as I grow older I push my luck less and stay aware of my surroundings more.

IL just keeps getting more strict and more strict...even before 2 years ago.

CHP sucks as do CA laws. Got a ticket for tinted windows & tail lights. Good thing I have a cop friend who will sign off without it being fixed ;)

So, just a follow up after many months. After two high risk driving courses and my lawyer's 3 court days, he called me last Friday and said that my ticket was dismissed. Just FYI for folks in OR, if you don't get charged with reckless driving (I didn't), you'd be facing $1200 plus 6 months suspended license and possible arrest. The lawyer told me I was let off the hook because: 1) I denied all charges. 2) I was paced. 3) The officer put a wrong time on the ticket 4) He knew the officer. So yea, got that resolved.

Unfortunately for me, I went 8 miles over yesterday and got another ticket in WA. Here we go again - not as bad though.

You could file a motion of discovery to see the maintainence records for the cop's car and when (and if) his speedometer (or radar gun in other cases)has been calibrated last, seeing using it as a parameter for his accusation of "aggressive trailing". Glad it was dismissed tho.

Kinda off subject, but here's a tip to keep your insurance rates from going up for a speeding ticket. If you plead guilty and pay by mail. Do the following: let's say your ticket is $100.00, send them a money order for say $102.00, then they will in return send you a check for the overpayment of $2.00. DO NOT cash the check, as a result the computer system will not balance out and create a report to the insurance bureau. Make sure though that you keep the check and proof of Payment in your wallet just in case. But the ticket will show in the system as paid, it just won't create a report that your insurance companies have access to!

I heard this from a few sourced about 10 years ago but then I also heard more recently that this software in most states was resolved. I don't know as everything pretty much is what u hear but I wonder if anyone knows for sure?
