Hey, does anyone know where the 2 camshaft sensors are located on the 45?
Anyone have a diagram handy? I know there is the crankshaft sensor by the bell housing.
But where are the 2 camshaft sensors for bank 1 and bank 2?

Cam sensors are normally right under the valve covers either in front of the engine or back of engine. Should be easy access to. I haven't found a hard to reach one yet on a Nissan.

I've been searching the FSM for 20 minutes and can only find one Camshaft Position Sensor.

Not sure....

I think that's for the VQ35 Jeff. I have the picture/location for the cam sensor (phase) at the front of the engine under the cai housing, but unsure of the other ones location.

I can only find one Camshaft Position Sensor on the VK45DE also.
I also look that the same diagram Jeff posted. Its for the VK45DE engine. The VQ35DE engine has two.

Thanks Jefferson.
The reason I ask is I just had the crank sensor replaced at the dealer with part #senso-23731-4M50B. Which is the second one.

I had the camshaft sensor for Bank 1 replaced 3 years ago and I looked at my service invoice and it had the exact same part number.
I asked the service tech about this and he told me that for the FX45 the 3 sensors use the same part. But the VQ engine is a different story.
I just want to double check independently and also want to go ahead and replace the camshaft sensor for bank 2 while I'm at it. Which I believe I can do at home.

Crank and Phase sensors are the same part number 23731-4M50B
And both Cam sensors are the same part number 23731-2Y52A

* part numbers based on your 05 FX45 *

Thank s Jefferson!

But even if the cam sensors and the crank and phase sensors have different part numbers, could it still be the same exact part?

They look like they could plug in to each other, but they are not the same part

*23731-4M50B and 23731-4M50A are the same part, one supersedes the other*

Thanks for clarification Jefferson!
Hmm....So maybe I had my cam "phase" sensor replaced 3 years ago and not the camshaft sensor along with my "crank" sensor last week, as the listed part numbers are the 23731-4M50B. Will buy the other 2 cam sensors and keep it on hand if this happens again.

I am surprised I have not seen others report this situation with the FX on the 45 or 35. Hope this helps others in the future.

Hey Dr.2K

I remember you from years ago when I was more active on the forums. I still have my 05 45. I need to fix a sensor issue. I am starting with replacing bank 1, if that does not work I will move to bank 2 and then crank shaft. Any advice as you have done this? Right now I am just trying to get the right sensor for the best deal, but I am struggling with figuring out if the cheaper ones I see are actually crans shaft sensors, not cam shaft...
