Armrest Compartment Lining Ideas

Hey all.

So as anyone who has seen my garage knows, I have done a fair amount of modification to my armrest compartment. This modification required me to reshape and rewire the entire interior of the box. I am quite happy with the results. However, it has meant that I lost the very nice felt lining that comes from the factory. Currently, I have the compartment lined in fabric tape to hold the wiring and give it a durable, usable finish. However, I am looking to give it more of a professional polish.

My question is, does anyone here know of a good material that I can shape, stretch and wrap to match my changed compartment shape while giving it an OEM style finish? I have looked at different vinyl wraps, but they are all a little smooth for my taste. I even found a sample piece of vinyl wrap with a felt finish, but could not purchase any. Any suggestions would be welcome! It is the only thing on my ride that feels unpolished, and it is driving me slightly crazy!

Thanks in advance.

Have you thought about synthetic suede or something similar? Like what you'd use on a headliner. I know that my headliner was a very stretchy material. I've got a roll of a different "suede" that is very stretchy and could conform to a lot of areas. It would probably be the most OEM looking material.

Plastidip? :alien:

I actually seriously considered this! I thought the black might just do it. My concern with it would be if it started to peel, I think it might take all the wiring, connections, cardboard backing, etc with it. But I may still try...

I like that idea actually. Any experience with how durable it would be to repeated wear and tear? I store keys, a knife, phone, wallet and any number of other goodies in there when I am driving. I would worry that having metal and whatnot sliding across it would mess it up pretty quickly.

I'm not sure how durable it might be, but a lot of this material is made for seating areas so I'd assume it can hold up.
