When will an FX design change be coming?

I am an FX35 owner (owned at least 3 or 4 FXs) and am in the market for a new one, but the 2013 model seems almost exactly the same as my 2011 FX35 (AWD with Nav), so am waiting it out. Does anyone have any idea regarding a design change as yet? Today I checked the inventory of all of the nearby Infiniti dealers and without exception, found that most of the cars in stock were the new JX, with very few FXs in stock. I am hoping that the FX is not going to be discontinued. Several years ago it was not ucommon for a dealer to have 30 - 40 FXs in stock, but now the average is only 3 or 4. Are they selling that fast, or are less being produced?

No it is not going to be discontinued and no it is not getting a redesign anytime soon.

I havent said anything about this, but Ive heard from someone tell me that production of the FX has been temporarily stopped because they are currently working on building the new Infiniti Q50 sedan and focusing on that for now.
 
it's not going to be redesigned until probably 2015 or even 2016 I would say
 
The FX's sell pretty fast. They are still in high demand.

Thanks for the quick replies - I am so happy with my silver 2011 FX. Thinking about a future redesign, was wondering how it could be possible to improve on the overall design of the car; and when the time comes, would not expect major changes.

Last week my wife and I went to the Cleveland Auto Show to see what was being offered by the competition. We looked at Lincoln, Cadillac, Buick, Lexus and Mercedes SUVs. All were nice cars, but as soon as I got home, I called our Infiniti dealer in Monroeville, PA and scheduled a complete service, and maybe a new set of tires (my car has 23,000 miles). I plan to keep the car at least one more year - maybe two.

My first FX was a Beryllium FX45 in 2003; and both my wife and I have been Infiniti owners since. So far our only expense was a new battery for my wife's M37X last year, and new key fobs batteries ($3 each). During the period from 2003 throough 2013 that was it - no problems of any kind! It is kind of hard to look much for another brand with that kind of service. We just wish there was a dealership closer to home. Our closest dealers are in Cleveland, Akron/Canton and Monroeville, PA - all over an hour's drive. Luckily we can get routine service (oil changes) done locally at the Nissan dealer which helps.

Honestly if you are happy with the FX I would just keep it instead of upgrading to the 2013 model. Really the 2013 models have nothing really better to offer than the 2009-2012 models. Same exact stuff and everything. Only thing is that the 2013 has the 3.7L engine instead of the 3.5. But there really isn't a big difference in the engines in terms of power. The 3.7L just has more linear throttle and a little more hp. Actually 2012-2013 models have lost some nice features the 2009-2011 models had.

Only way I would see it worth to upgrade is if you step it up to an FX50s model instead, otherwise just keep what you have now.

Thanks for the advice (keeping my 2011). I may just think about an FX50 however, but they are so scarce around here unless in black, I buy a black car about every 20 years, and it has only been about 15 years since the last one. (Too hard to keep clean). I think what I will do is wait until the 2014s come out anyhow if I go for an FX50.

One thing that really irritates me about my Infinitis is that the plug to the 12-volt power outlet goes off when car is shut off, unlike many U.S. cars that supply power 24/7. I keep my cell phone plugged in and would like to keep it charged. I drive short distances, so sometimes find a low battery on the cell phone. When I bought my 2011 FX35 the salesman said that the rear seat outlet was hot all the time (he was wrong). However since this is the ONLY thing that I do not like about the car, guess I should forget about this. Am I the only person who noticed this? Hopefully Infiniti will some day make this change.

You have to rewire the socket from a line that is hot all the time.

Any mechanic or electrician for cars especially radio installers can do this.You have to rewire the socket from a line that is hot all the time and that has a fuse

one of the power outlets is hot when the car is off and the other purposely turns off when the car is off. Just use the other one. I actually love this feature that I can choose one or the other.

Are we talking about the same car? My early 2011 has power on dash and in rear seat area only when ignition is on. I tested it several times. I was really in hopes that Infiniti would provide power as you say (one on and one off). Am I missing something?

2009 has at least 3 power outlets from what I know....by the coin changer, in the center console where the video out and ipod connectors are, and in the rear cargo area. the rear cargo and center console are 'hot' I believe and the coin changer only when the car is on.
 
I just checked the following four outlets and absolutely, positively NO POWER to any outlets unless the engine is running:

Front at coin changer'
Center console between front seats
Center console facing rear seats
Cargo area passenger side rear.

Stating engine and checking the same - all had power with engine on.

I bought my 2011 FX35 new in December of 2010 from Cochran Infiniti of Monroeville, PA. Can anyone check theirs again and let me know?

I just double checked and they are cold. I got mixed with my wife's SUV which has a hot in the center and cold by the coin. Sorry for the confusion...
 
This doesn't sound like a big deal, but we often leave one of our Infinitis sit for a week and having a dead cell phone battery is not pleasant, considering that this change could be easily made by Infiniti.

Update - my wife and I just returned from the 2014 Cleveland Auto Show and did not see a QX70, although there was a new JX and an EX (old names). I am really disappointed, as was hoping for some type of design change. I almost bought a new 2014 in December, but after sleeping on it, decided to pass, as the car was almost identical to my 2011, including the interior. At the show, I looked at some other nice SUVs, but after coming home, drove my silver FX35 through the car wash and after looking at it, do not see anything that comes close to the look of this car. Actually there is little difference in the body between my first FX45 in 2003 and my 2011 FX35. This is a tribute to a great design and is probably the reason Infiniti cannot come up with a major change. I see that other SUVs are starting to resemble the lines of the FX (check the upcoming 2015 Lincoln MKC especially, and the Ford Edge is somewhat similar as well).

Does anyone have any information about a major upgrade for this car? I am getting anxious for a new one, as usually trade every 2 or 3 years.
