Which type of 7440 LED to use for DTRL

Hi All. I swapped out my DTRL a while ago with some LEDS, recently one went out/was flickering. I flipped the polarity around while the lights were still on (without thinking) and blew the DTRL fuse.

Anyway, I know what the problem is and will swap out with some new LEDS after I replace the fuse. The LED's I had originally were only $5 and didn't put out much light (the kind that have many separate diodes http://autolumination.com/images/leds/7443_sw.jpg). I feel like LED technology has improved since I bought those.

Question: Which style of 7440 LED would you recommend for brightness & value & reliability (not necessarily in that order).

Cheers

I just got some Amber ones from VLEDs. They are bright as fuck and the physical quality of them is amazing. The housing is all metal and clear glass. Such a great company. Here's the ones I got, you can go for the cheaper ones they have or the more expensive but these aren't very cheap either. Worth it I think though.

Even their packing is amazing. They came in static free resealable electronics bags.

You may want to check the LED's the bulb in there is a dual filament, with 2 brightnesses. if you have your headlights on it goes to the lower brightness, and if you have DRL signal out it goes to the brighter one. I had issues with a few LED's

If you get single filament (equivalent) and don't have DRL mod then depending on which of the l/h they connect it may not turn on at all. and if you have the DRL mod they may only turn on in one circumstance, and may short out the circuit if they didn't design the internals to work well with both "filaments" enabled.

Also you wont see the brightest level of output if you're only getting the low beam signal into the bulb.

I think the 7443 is "dual filament" and 7440 is single

Thanks for the heads up, my DTRL turned on with either the parking lights or the headlights on, so I must have had the dual filament bulb, if not by chance. It seems like autolumuination.com can send either the 7443 or 7440 for many of the LED styles they have. I suspect you have a dual filament 7443 in your DRL's? What style do you like/use?

Hey, that is cool. Did you do the DTRL Mod? If not, you have any pics of what they look like in your FX?

I did not, I painted the housing black, cover reflectors in black reflective vinyl, added umnitza angel eyes, and just replaced the normal bulbs with these.

They are not all put back together yet but I will take pictures when they are :)

Oh and did clear lens swap!

the writeup on "the org" is what I followed to do the mod. Note this will make the DTRL come on with the ignition, and also make your back seat and trunk cig outlets be on all the time (which I like so I can leave stuff charging while I'm away) I think the high beam mode is only enabled with the DTRL mod.

I posted pics there with the 2 brightness levels. most likely your bulbs are on in the low beam mode, which is good for when you have your lights on. if theyre too bright people think you're running with highbeams on and will flash at you. Though you might want to run with them in the bright mode during the day, I have been meaning to redo my setup with true DTRL module so they work the way they should.

here is a pic with my DTRL (I also did halo ring fog lamps that turn on with the DTRL)

That looks sweet. I'm glad you pointed me to the org post.

I just went through the same thing you did: noticed parking lights went out, then my dash/console and finally my tail lights won't come on when my parking or headlights are on.

Are all the fuses under the same box? Any behind the battery?

After I fix the fuse issue, I will probably just upgrade the LED type and keep stock parking lights (I like to have the ability to have no external lights on).

TIA for fuse locations.

I definitely blew some in the box behind battery. Good idea to get one of those light up fuse testers. I had to pull them out to figure out. I think I blew like 3 different fuses. Almost ordered a set of the light up fuses lol.

I will do a mod where the DTRL work correctly at some point, there may be a writeup somewhere already using a DRL module.
