Attacked by Cadillac owners

Maybe I'm just imagining this but it seems like lately alot of car forums are dead. I'm not really a very active member on other forums but I do lurk and notice no activity on those forums at all. And it's not even bad forums but all the forums in general. I see people ask a question now and maybe only get 1 or 2 replied within the thread. I don't remember it being like this a few years ago.

Its one reason why when I need help on something with my G I ask on here instead because even though this isn't a G forum I still get a reply right away and many answers. You ask on the G forums and no one answers questions. And it's not just that place but many forums in general. They don't seem as "booming" as they use to be. I understand people have things to do and what not, but it doesn't seem like it was a few years ago. Like G35nyc use to have alot of active members but that place is dead as can be now.

Maybe people aren't into being car enthusiasts anymore? lol
 
^^^ your'e not imagining it.. truth be told, people grow up and priorities have changed.. kids, house, job etc.. i was an active member of g35 driver and that forum is going dead.. even our sub forum for san diego g35 is pretty much done.. no one ever posts or go to meets anymore..

You're right a lot of car forums are dying. I call it the myspace syndrome lol. Just the other day I got a reply to a question I posted on MBZ forum that I wrote 6 months ago. Thank God for IS or I'd have to start stamp collecting

It's a matter of folks moving on to a different ride or have other interests ?? I also used to be on MBWorld when I first for a W204 in late 2007 when they first came out ......... that was a very active forum since the car was so new. I went to MBWorld from G35driver when I traded in my G ( that's why I've known Wayne for so long ) and that forum was probably one of the most active forums I've visited. I remember clicking on " New Posts " and there would be pages of new posts ........ do that today and it's nothing like that now.

Here at IS it's one of the few good forums now with guys ve very helpful , friendly and of course we all loooove , looove our FX's :smile (2):


PS ..... GetLucki insted of startng a stamp collection I'd say you should start a side buisness in painting calipers. I looove how yours came out !!!! If you were nearer ....... I'd be banging on your door already haaaa !!!!!!
 
There's definitely a demographic associated with the type of vehicle the FX is that has staying power in a forum setting. An all around moderately fast, stylish well handling vehicle that can be made to be faster and handle better is a stronger rallying point than say an entry price fast ricer. That with the understanding iS is unique with friendly, helpful, knowledgeable people......a good biz model.

This. I feel like the new-age kids are more on Facebook and stuff like that. There was a thing on My350Z where IB took a few of us and asked us some questions about the site in an effort to drum up more activity on there.
 
Yup G35driver is dead too along with many other forums I look at.

@Elaine, I don't think it's because people are moving on to different cars because even other non Infiniti forums are dead too. I'm just talking about all forums in general. My friend has a TL and he use to be on AcuraZine like 24/7. Now he rarely goes on unless something is wrong with his car because he said the place is a ghost town.

But yeah I know people do have priorities and other things and just lose interest.

Another reason to love :iS: because everyone is active on here and always willing to help out one another. Guess we are just a different kind of group :good:
 
Theoretically though another generation of enthusiats and tuners should take the place of those who have outgrown the industry. But why isnt that happening...?

You only need to look as far as Revscene. Vancouvers biggest car forum. and all of canada in general. Once it was 10000's of thousands strong now its not nearly as busy.

Ya man... i have been on ls1 tech.... it seemed a lot more put together. Ill probably stay over there from now on. Stupid cadillac owners... I damn sure wouldnt own one if it wasnt for this monster in my driveway.

I think it might simply be that after so many years.. all the issues and active questions have been discussed over and over. Most things you can search and read about, theres less need to talk about issues. On here, there is a lot of interesting things going on, topics outside of the cars themselves, unique custom jobs etc. When I go down to my shop they always look at the fx like I should get rid of it, they are used to building bmw's and mustangs and other cars they can track. So fx owners have to stick together, not too many people outside of us that understand or care. Ironically, everytime I let someone drive mines... they have a big smile on their face. And I have an 03 45.. i can only imagine how the 50 drives.

I think the only thing I would pass on the fx for would be the new srt8 Grand Cherokee or the x6m.

I think the biggest problem with a lot of car forums and activity nowadays is a bit of a generation gap between those who did their own work on their cars or are mechanically savvy and those young kids who have no clue what to do with a wrench...it feels a little silly saying that seeing as I'm only 25, but I keep in touch with some of my old teachers and professors and the difference over only a 10 year generation gap sounds pretty monumental.

When I was 16 and got my first car - 1990 Camaro Iroc-Z Redneckmobile for $2000 - I spent quite a bit of time just screwing around with it mechanically figuring out what to do. I helped my buddy build a 350 chevy engine from scratch and I by no means considered myself a gearhead. It seems like all the kids getting brand new mercs and bmws these days take it to a shop to have someone else do the work or have no initiative to figure out something for themselves (this can be verified by the fact that most can't even use a search engine within a forum).

Thats a good point too... although a lot has changed between a 90 iroc and a 2010 g37. I mean, some things are still simple enough, but most require a little more than a garage, a torque wrench and some jack stands. Im 34 and 10 years ago when I had a couple G bodies, an 87 mustang, and some others I did a little work myself. Today when I look at pulling the valve covers on the fx45 I shake my head and drop it off at my boys shop, id rather pay the money than deal with the headache. I honestly dont have the time or the patience for most of it.
 
now a days its hard to find are purchase the manual for the cars because the manufacture make it that way. just stop an think about this. i rotate my tire for my fx35 a couple of days ago now the indication the the cabin is all mix up in order for me to fix that i have to take it in to the dealer to get it reset. some one tell me why? to me is that bull sh!!!!t
 
All that has been said is correct but its just the times, for those of you who remember when the only channels you had on your TV were 4,5,7,9, 20, 22, 26, 45, 50 and maybe 83 now you get over 200+ channels on the tv. Remember when it didnt cost a dime to watch, tv cut off at 2:00am with blank screen, cartoon only came on tv, on Sarurday mornings till 12:00 noon, now look cartoons 24hrs. mobile phones were only scene on"Star Trek" Led's were on the a Black Camaro that talked and almost drove itself (cant remember the show), computer games were atari - Pong just a light giong bck n forth and so on. I can go on and on but im sure everyone gets the picture. Time has changed and machines have ben replaced for people is why now when you called one of the company for service a machine picks up and ask you serveral questions then proceed to ask you please press #1-5 if you need something. Use to be communication with a person but no more. just like your car somethings you can do yourelf or dont mind doing and others you just let someone else handle it. TIMES have changed. Old (is talking with one another) new (is texting) there are some benefits of both. carry on
 
You mentioned "valet". Since owning my FXs, I do NOT do valet. We were at an upscale restaurant in Columbus one evening in our new FX where it was almost impossible not to use the valet service. I opened the side window and told the valet that "I don't do valet, but here is $5 - where do I park". He quickly said, "Yes sir - park over there". ("Over there" was very close to the entrance, and in a prime spot for all to see the car). I am very careful where I park and don't want strangers driving my car or parking in tight places. I park only next to nice cars, at the end of a row (close to the edge), never down-hill (doors fly open unexpectedly if parked down-hill). If a parking lot has 8' wide spaces, I go elsewhere or find a wider spot. If we go to a restaurant and parking is tight, we go to another restaurant. My wife now has a handicap sticker which really helps (broken leg and ankle and lots of metal and a lifetime limp). During the period from 2003 to the present, we have had no parking lot dings or scratches - not even one. When I trade in a car, I always mention this, as want to get the best possible trade. I also have the car in pristine conditon inside and out - this is the way to go when trading in a car if you want to get the best deal.

When I go out anywhere I try and park as far away from any car whether nice or not so I don't come back to any surprises.

Oh YESSSIRRRRRRR, I will not put that car near anyone or anything. I have parked in other lots and walked across the street on numerous occasions. People are retarded, rude, and dont give a f@#k about other peoples property. Since I bought my wife her V she started doing it too, and she is pregnant.

Meanwhile I laugh at people who spend 5 minutes driving around to get a close space when I have parked way out at the end and walked and still get into the store before they do.
 
Im actually surprised to read that there are Cadillac forums... How'd they interface the typewriter to the PC anyway? Are the keys extra large? just wondering

Still waiting for pics of OP actually being attacked by Cadillac owners. Doesn't have to be all brutal style like breaking knee caps or wimpy like flicking boogs, just a couple of knock downs and rib kicks would suffice.
