FX50 Vettel - Exhaust changes and ECU tune... info out there?

I'm sure this has been asked before but info seems pretty scarce. It would be great to find more information on the "Exhaust" changes the Infiniti made for the Vettle edition. I have lower hopes for the ECU tune as that's probably going to be impossible to get... but the exhaust info should be less difficult.

Anyone know what they tweaked on the exhaust? Any pictures of the undercarriage?

I'm pretty close to Uprev and can get a tune done without too much difficulty. It's the exhaust I'm most interested in.

An extra 30ish hp would be nice ;)

I don't think there is no info on that exhaust and it will be impossible to get a hold of that Info. That exhaust is for sure completely different than one on the stock FX and will be hard to duplicate.

I'm not so sure anyone can say this at this point. It could be completely different or it could simply be a rework. We need pictures!

As for the tune THAT is what would be next to impossible to get all things considered.

I've been trying to find pictures of the undercarriage but no luck so far...

Well it looks like the exhaust is going to have a valve for silence and open like the VWR32 and Corvettes.

You mean it already does :) I think though that from the perspective of building our own "vettle" tunes this isn't much of an issue as it's probably designed not to "boost performance" as they claim but rather quiet the noise. But of course marketing folks don't say things like "we have button that removes the restrictions placed on the exhaust to enable full power...."

The use of the term "exhaust valve" is interesting though. Accurate but not very marketing flashy :)

It will be more like, "With the new Exhaust Valve, you will have the power you crave at the touch of the button. Touch the button and you will be thrown into the seat and dazzled by the harmonious exhaust note that the powerful power-plant delivers through its sound and performance tuned state of the art exhaust."

You would probably get better gains with an UpRev dyno tune as it will be specific for your particular car. As far as the exhaust, I would imagine it may be a bit more 'straight' and perhaps a bit larger in diameter....purely a guess, but exhaust concepts are not that complicated.

I thought the Vettel version had a different valvetrain though too? Doing a quick search I did not see that though.

An tune won't do much in the way of gains unless you've made other changes (such as the improved exhaust and say intakes). Our cars are already fairly well tuned as it is. I was the one who provided UpRev with the base FX50 ECU image they are using for their tunes. I know the crew over there well.

I'm planning an exhaust fitting in the near future at a performance shop here in Austin and should all go well I'll be bringing the FX over to UpRev for a tune.

The hope is to replicate what they did on the Vettle. Of course that's a lot of guesswork unless someone is able to put their hands on one to see exactly what was done on the exhaust and to clone the ECU!

Lol you are probably right.

Actually, I was talking with a performance shop about this yesterday and the way he explained it to me was that an more open exhaust will add more to the mid and top end. So the valve likely helps the low end at the expense of the top, for more responsive city type driving. Ie adding a bit of restriction back into the exhaust.

Of course you should always put your power adders on before doing a tune but I was not referring to an 'off-the-shelf' tune that they would sell to anyone. If you go to an approved UpRev tuner, they can tune your car using the UpRev software on the dyno so that the fuel/timing mappings are specific for your car = better than any Vettel version tune. I considered this back in May when I had my Z32 tuned. The tuner was also an UpRev licensed tuner and mentioned it to me as my FX was there as well. I decided against it as my FX is totally stock as of right now but will be going this route at some point in the future.

Next plans for me is to get an exhaust made with less bends and perhaps larger diameter (if that is possible), improve the intake if I can find a good product. At that point, do the dyno tune. Engines are basically air pumps, the quicker you can get air into and out of it the more power you can produce. Unfortunately a total of 30 additional horsepower is still optimistic with that configuration and probably will not even be noticeable as it is less than an 8% increase in total power. Would be nice to find a way to effectively lose some weight off these things a bit to improve the power to weight ratio. The Vettel version does that with a 100 pound weight loss so that coupled with the improved aerodynamics, lower center of gravity and increased power will make it a more fun vehicle to drive but certainly not at the price they are asking.

The tuner I was working with is currently testing a supercharger system with GTM for the Titan 5.6, I told him to have the folks at GTM keep that in mind for the VK50VE. Hopefully then at some point we can have a real power adder in the mix. :smile (2):

no updates. plus Uprev dropped support for the FX50 for now. Not much to get more power out of the FX50. Check my threads - I did test pipes + exhaust, and got a tune.

It'll probably be another few years before anything comes out, much like with the FX45.

Did you mean... This type of information ? :)

Sorry for bumping up old thread. Is there any details about rebuilding Vettel exhaust as a custom exhaust for our v8s by some shop ?
Couldnt find much info online... :-(
