Hydro Dipping

So, I was talking to Zebra on his thread about his new wheels and I came up with an idea of him wrapping them in Carbon Fiber. Then Jcasanova introduced me to something I had never seen before... Hydro Dipping..

Here is the video she posted that got me interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNv9...e_gdata_player

They made the wheels look just like carbon fiber and I was wondering if anyone had done this before? To wheels or anything really. I just found out about this and was wondering if it is any good.

Based on what Andy said on Zebras thread, he doesn't recommend it and it turns out cheap looking

Hmmm :/ I was hoping that wouldnt be the answer because it would look sweet.

I wonder if wrapping is an option then...

I always thought it was a cool idea, they can dip anything from ps3, xbox controllers to valve covers, interior pieces and rims. Btw I'm a guy Dave lol.

Sent from my HTC 2

Based on what I've seen hydro dipping works really well on simple shapes and when using random patterns. On complex shapes or with patterns where you want straight lines, like CF, it's hit or miss.

WTF,,,,,,,,,, when did this happen :rotfl:

That hydro dipping does look really neat, but I would imagine it would take a lot of practice and patience to do a real good job on something.

It comes out really good when I had my VIP gs300 I did all the trim inside in burl wood and it came out nice. I plan on doing my grill and the 2 chrome trunk pieces in carbon fiber. Also it's cheap

Where can you go to get this done? I think the carbon fiber grill will come out nice, I was thinking the same thing.

I just asked a guy here in my city that does it he said $650 for my four rims. I could probably get a deal if I sent some people his way from the thread. Let me know! They have 4 locations so they might have one closer to you.

I had it on the blue plastic body of my go kart. I like it on toys and fun dress up stuff, but I personally wouldn't put it on anything classy.
