Belts???

Hi everybody.

I NEED HELP


My belts are squeaking, its very embarrassing haha.

i already replaced them twice with an aftermarket ones, they are still squeaking.


what do ya use? from the dealership or a specific brand ( i used Delco, thats what a shop here recommended for me to use )
 
/\ What he said you need to tighten them.I would do it a little at a time till noise stops so you don't over tighten them.Too tight and bearing damage could occur. You should only be able to twist the belts by hand about a quarter way.
 
mine squeaks also. belts look good as they were changed 2 years ago. do i got to tigthn it? it only started happening in the past couple months during the cold weathers. before it was fine. goes away once and a while. i thought it was cause i leave the fx sitting outside in the cold.

i would take the belts off and reinstall them and this time a bit more tighter
 
um what does taking it off and reinstalling it do? im afraid ill tighten it too much and put too much stress on the pulleys.
 
it also might be one of ur pulleys making that squeak.

also u dont have to take it off, u can just tighten a tiny bit. Dont worry ur not torquing down anything, just tighten it a little, then start the car and see if the sound is gone
 
As long as they are not cracked just try tightening them a little at a time. As long as you can twist the belt a little less than a quarter way they shouldn't be too tight. Or if you know a mechanic with a tension gauge he could accurately check for correct tension.
 
If you had a coolant spill and some got on the belt, that could also cause a squeak. A small amount on one spot will end up affecting the whole belt and all pulleys. If you replace a squeaky belt with a new one, clean the pulleys well first.
 
im experiencing this right now as well.. im gonna check more in detail soon but most of the time its due to cold weather and belts not being tight enough.. On a cold start the belts rubber lining aren't as tacky as they are on normal temperatures causing them to slip.. that makes them make that horrid sound you hear mostly every cold morning on a cold start.. sucks and it is embarrassing... If the squeal is constant and happens frequently on cold starts and normal driving temperatures then you should check your belts for damage and or over stretching.. If your belts have fraying on either end then check each pulley to make sure there's no wobble caused by bearing damage.. If there's damage to the belt itself then it most likely jumped a groove on a pulley or there's damage to one the the groove guides on one of the pulleys

start with inspection, if all is good just tighten them and go from there

I've experienced this twice in the year that I have had my FX 35. First time dealership tightened belts, then replaced belts, about a month later and it's doing it again. I requested they tighten pulley's when she goes in for service next week. Current belts are Nissan parts. Hopefully this will resolve the issue. I miss her purr.
